@manton ... i wonder if there is a better word we can use in Micro Blog than ‘users’ ... all the usual logic and arguments drive my question.

@JohnPhilpin It's an interesting question to consider while we are still in the early evolution of Micro.blog. Any ideas? Micropeeps isn't quite right. 😂
@macgenie concurrence on micropeeps ... my thinking hat has been on for a while now - and no alternatives have come up for me ... yet … certainly not ‘customers’ nothing in the thesaurus searches seem right ... maybe have a unique term /// ‘micros’ ... no ‘travellers’ … no - but you see what I mean?
@JohnPhilpin @macgenie as long as we’re not microbes…
@JohnPhilpin I sometimes catch myself typing "users" or "customers" and just say "people" instead, although it depends on the context.
@manton yes - I am a big fan of people I even have a web site devoted to them ... ... but we are all people … and there is a sub category of people that are those that are part of the micro blog community - and then some of those who each of us follows.
”The IndieWeb is a people-focused alternative to the "corporate web”.
@Zak I don’t think I can take credit. I think it is one of those things a few folks came to on their own.
here is an older article on the topic, but basically there are two industries that use ’user’ ... the software industry and the drug industry ...
couple that with the fact that i am, personally in the ’humanizing tech’ camp.
@vishae @johnjohnston, @macgenie @JohnPhilpin I'm onboard with Microbes—it is infinitely better than "tweeps” ever was. Micronauts? 😆
@Lioncourt oooh ... Micronauts … the only one that starts to compare with Microbes ..... ?? @macgenie @manton
@Lioncourt I like Micronauts! And though our leader is not Jason, I do believe Manton rhymes with that.
(Also, “Manton and the Micronauts” sounds like a band in some wild children’s story, or something. Plus, fun alliteration!)
@smokey "Manton and the Micronauts” also sounds like it could've been a cartoon in the 90s. 😂
@JohnPhilpin how about micromites? Seriously though, people is my favourite of all that was mentioned. Micro.blog members is another good one. I really don’t feel like we need to invent a word for it. The bigger the platform’s glossary is, the bigger barrier to entry it has.
@JohnPhilpin The correct generic term is "microbloggers." To refer to the ones on Micro.blog, I would say "microbloggers here." Microblogging was the purpose behind why this was created and why we are here. It's right there in the domain name! So that's what holds us all together as a group & that's the word that makes sense.
@khurt I get that, but do you want that to be status quo for the community? If you’re looking for diversity and want non-tech peoplearound, it’s something to keep in mind.
@khurt Even as a software dev guy I don’t really want another platform specific word that I don’t need. There’s enough cruft out there already.
