Every few years I price Amtrak routes for potential upcoming trips. May not be possible right now, but thinking it would be a great way to get some uninterrupted writing done. So hard to find the time to focus.

@manton In a book on writing, I read about a guy who booked a round trip from LAX (or maybe it was NYC) to Tokoyo and back. Dude never left the airport. Just cranked out the first draft of a manuscript.

@manton I think the route from New York to Seattle via Chicago is nice. I did this last year. Get a sleeper. Sit and relax. This time I got the USA rail pass because there are two routes I have not done in the west. Particularly looking forward to the slow meandering ni arriving rides starting in emeryville and ending in Chicago with 5 stops between. If I wanted the time though I would look at a ride across the United States.

@manton This. Fleeing to the coast next week, not by train, but hoping a change in routine jumpstarts something.

@manton I switched up home office to help me finish writing this week will test the theory. My new train trips recently have mainly involved playing the Switch which has been nice too

@manton I mean, if you gotta get the draft done. But maybe a train trip across the country would have better views.

@jean I love that story.

@manton As someone who’s done two cross country train trips: do it. You get so much done. The Coast Starlight is a particular favorite too. Just don’t count on Internet access!

@splinter Oh yeah, I was looking at that earlier: no wifi on the Texas Eagle. And probably inconsistent cell coverage.

@jean I read a romance novel about something like this... "Wait With Me" by Amy Daws.
