A Fond Farewell to Micro Monday Recommendations: ardisson.org
@smokey Thank you Smokey. You're an amazing community builder here on Micro.Blog. With your weekly recaps and Micro Monday suggestions and your dedication to interacting with folks on the timeline I'm amazed you have any time left to, you know, live. You have certainly done more than your share around here. Thank you for all the recommendations. Now take some time for yourself. I imagine I speak for everyone. 😀
@smokey You’ve definitely earned a break! Thanks for all that you’ve done to support this network.
@smokey Thank you for your service 😊 I’ve always relied on your recommendations to find new people.
@smokey You deserve the break Smokey. I appreciate that you have continued to do this for so long. No task is fun when it becomes a chore. Especially a blog post. I believe this will make any micro monday recommendations from you going ahead a lot more special. So no need to feel sorry and you are not letting anyone down. Thank you and enjoy 🙂
@smokey Thank you. You have been inspiring in your commitment and as a newish member I am grateful.
@smokey Thank you so much for all your thoughtful recommendations. Your archive of Micro Monday posts is a wonderful resource. We are in the midst of a new wave of members here, who will benefit from what you have done.
@smokey Thanks for all the recommendations you've provided over the last two years. I don't think you should feel guilty about wanting your life back, and it's been a great resource. Now that I know you have it archived I'll be going through it to find more interesting people to add to my timeline to go with the interesting people who are already there.
@smokey Clearly you understand the needs behind nurturing and developing a community. From my POV, I will notice these when they are gone (or not posted as regularly), however I think you fought the good fight, but as with all things they come to and end. MM will continue with the podcast hopefully and you get to experience what we have :). I think just your level of consistent and complete interation is value enough (no one comes close to that level, at least not that I've seen).
@smokey Thank you for all you do for this community Smokey. Your dedication and love of micro.blog speaks for itself. I don't take your offerings and posts for granted. Now take a well earned break.
@Miraz Thanks, Miraz. I’m always trying to squeeze a little life in around Micro.blog…er, the other way around 😂
@pratik Thank you, Pratik. I hope the weekly recaps will sort-of continue to provide that service in a different way.
@amit Thank you, Amit. 😀
(Also, I’m glad to see you around here again recently…I’d started to worry you might have gotten caught up in the unrest in India.)
@poetalegre Thanks for your kind words, Colleen, and I hope you continue to feel at home here 😀
@macgenie Thank you, Jean. I will try to remember to point to the archive now and again, too.
@arush Thanks for the kind words, Amanda; I hope there are some “good finds” there in the archive waiting for you 😀
@kaa Thanks, Khaled. I think I’ve long had a case of “if not me, then who” syndrome, which so far has not proven fatal. But it’s interesting you said “Clearly you understand the needs behind nurturing and developing a community” because that reminds me of a post @vasta made sometime this year, which in turn made me think about all the times I’ve tried to facilitate or make connections within groups of people in the past…for some reason that seems to come naturally to me. But I’m happy that sometimes it gets put to good use. 😀
@crossingthethreshold Thank you for those kind words, David. (One more Monday this year to go 😉)
@smokey You’ll have to fill me in here! Obviously I was new to the platform so I'm not sure what your involvement with micro Mondays were and why they seem to have stopped now?
@prologic Ah…well, @macgenie started Micro Monday in January 2018 and initially lots of people offered recommendations, though over time the number of people participating any given Monday dwindled…lots of times to just me—for 2 solid years I supplied a recommendation every Monday. But now, for all the reasons detailed in my post, I’m stepping back (but hopefully others will step forward and offer their recommendations again every now and then).
@smokey Excuse the ignorance, but it is just another form of manual duration for the Discover page? The main issue I think I have with participating in something like this is that I don't have the tools to discover new and interesting posts or people other than the Discover page… And since my own social cycles in real life I rather small I don't think I would be a good fit for such a roll 🤷♂️ II I think we need to figure out a way of scaling the hand corporation the Discover page so that it's not just up to 2 people @manton @macgenie which puts a lot of burden on them
@smokey @prologic I'm sorry that link to the first announcement of Micro Monday doesn't work. Not sure what happened, but here is the correct one: micro.welltempered.net/2018/01/0...
@macgenie Eek…I’d just been copying that link from your The Who, What, When, Where, and Why of Micro Monday post, so you’ll want to fix it there, too 😬
@johnjohnston Thanks for those kind words, John 😀 I’m glad all my chattering is also useful.
@prologic It’s supposed to be another way in which all of us can help new people like yourself find more people to follow.
@smokey Thanks. I knew it was my fault. I can't remember why the link would have changed to include the date. If I only I knew someone who would know... 😉
@smokey Agreed! No argument with the intent. I think I've found most folks to Follow through the Discover page however :) Not that it diminishes the work of Micro Monday at all! The "Discover” page is just "right there” and easily discoverable (no pun intended!)
@smokey makes sense to me. I think less scheduled and more organic recommendations are a great way to end without ending.
@aa Thanks, Aaron. In that way, it will be more like an extension of the discovery aspect of the weekly recaps 😀
@smokey Appreciate your concern Smokey. Thankfully, the unrest hasn't spread to the part of the country I live in. Rather, it is felt only in some limited regions.
@smokey Thank you SO MUCH for your service! I’ve appreciated your hard work and sterling efforts; I’ve followed a lot of people because of your recommendations. I was also fortunate to be included a while back so I am super grateful.
@DiplomaticDiva Thanks so much for your kind words, and I’m glad that my recommendations have helped :-)
