Working on security this morning. Just realized I’ve been scammed out of hundreds of dollars because someone used a stolen credit card to register a bunch of domain names. For a very small business, this hurts a lot.

@manton This could be contagious. I lost 44 euro to a Chinese takeaway that doesn’t exist. Had to cancel my card bc someone input my numbers directly. Now trying to remember who physically held my card recently. I think it happened on another continent.
@manton Crappy thing for a Friday. We battle these stupid domain fraudsters all. day. long. DM me if you need any advice on how to get them to give up and move on to an easier target.
@manton Same! My wife asked me just yesterday if I had spent a few hundred at Walmart for anything. Nope, I have not. Someday, I’d love to know who did.
@manton sorry to hear. Thought I’d reply just to be sure you know about privacy dot com. It has prevented this for me numerous times.
@manton oh no! Will the credit card company refund it?
@philbowell Looks like I can get a little bit of it refunded, but I caught it too late. It’s complicated because of how we hand off domain registrations to another company (Name.com) to handle.
