Thanks to all the recent mentions around here, I’m going to try blogging with Write.as for a while. Haven’t posted there since 2018. It’s come a long way. It’ll be fun! 😘. I’m at write.as/jackbaty/ for now. I can’t help it.

I can’t help it.
Is this FOMO 😃 or something else, @jack?
@khurtwilliams Both, probably. I'm weary of the static blogging workflow and was looking for something "nice" and easier and with the right attitude. Lack of customization options is a feature, right now. There's commenting (new), email subscription, basic stats, etc. And it looks good right out of the box.
@jack This makes me curious if Write.as is essentially static under the hood, in the likes of Micro.blog and Blot? All the advantages of an SSG without the hassle.
@jack @ohBananaJoe Their 5-year plan was so tempting so I went for it. I didn't want to post it over here because I felt like I might kick some FOMO in the community. 🤣
@AngeloStavrow I've only done a tiny bit of customization to the existing theme. I'll probably dig in more once I get settled in. Didn't know about css.horse so that should make it easier, thanks!
@jack @ohBananaJoe @timapple @ridwan @pimoore @AngeloStavrow @khurtwilliams I have absolutely zero need for this, and now I'm getting the urge to upgrade my dead account.
Also, that css.horse link looks very handy, @AngeloStavrow!
@maique This was exactly the reason why I resisted posting here. Haha!
@jack @ohBananaJoe @timapple @AngeloStavrow @pimoore @khurtwilliams
@jack Stop! We're trying to save all the euros and cents for a month on the island, and I'm not sure I'll have work there this time around!
How much was that again?? 🤣
@maique 😂 that discount is super tempting. I was looking at write.as for a while for having multiple blogs as I wanted a Portuguese blog 🤔
@jack I just read your post from 2018. Admittedly it was published on April 1st so there is wriggle room there, but you said,
I will never not try every new service I learn about.
You are keeping to that pledge!
@jack that surely is tempting, but personally I'd save my moolah for what comes next for Micro.blog. I am waiting for multi-blog deals for family. There is Micro.blog for Teams, but it is still just one blog. I want to be able to pay $200/year (maybe?) for up to 5 different blogs/accounts under a single billing account or something like that. :)
And yeah, maybe a five-year discounted subscription, too. Imagine 5-year subscription for 50% off! Haha. :)
@rom I think all y’all need a tinkerers emoji tag.
Informally, I use 🔧, though 🛠 is probably more correct, because I see people demolish as well as build on a regular basis.
@ridwan You started this somehow. This little cabal has a spidey-sense, and they can tell when someone is changing something somewhere with their blogging platform.
@rom Oh, I'm still using Micro.blog as well for short posts and photos. Nothing beats it for that.
@numericcitizen I just don't seem to be able to stop. I don't think it's a disease. More like a "condition" 😜. Something about inexpensive long-term price breaks always sucks me in. On top of all that, Write.as is quite nice, which helps!
@jack @maique @ridwan @jean @ohbananajoe I use to say "there's no limit to how many blog services you can have". Trying new ones out and hopping from the one to the other is one of the fun things with blogging. I use micro.blog, Posthaven and Write.as. I am registered at Bearblog as well but that's not active right now. Was on Blot for a while too. I'm excited to see you over at WA as well.
@jack you know what? I'm tempted a lot. I love your idea of "investing" in services that are based on missions that you value as a way to legetimize your spending on something that you probably don't need that much.
@maique I guess you need to sign up for the newsletter? I don’t know how to do it though. I find Blot a bit weird. 🤣
@ridwan Blot is awesome. I moved away from it a while back when I either went easy with WordPress or all-static with Hugo. Still miss it at times, though.
@ridwan Oh I have tried Blot for years, it's not new for me. I still love it, but my current workflow with Micro.blog works best for me and I want to stick to it. If you people allow that, that is ;)
@amit Haha. This is the reason why I didn't want to post about Write.as & Blot here. 🤣 I kind of like W.a over Blot due to the community interaction.
@maique @amit I have migrated through way too much blogging platforms and the way I see it, MB gives me the benefits of self-hosted, that is custom themes, plug-ins and stuff, without having the hassle of actually hosting it myself. Plus all the Indieweb is built-in.
Also enjoy hugely the ease of posting.
@jack I just recently started writing long posts here, too. Figured that I might as well consolidate all here.
@jack thanks for the tip. I want to support them as well, so what I’ve done is created a couple anonymous poetry blogs there. I’ve wanted to try writing poetry as practice and this is the perfect low-friction, low-stress way to do that!
@rom I think we could explore a 5-year subscription. I like the idea, and I try to buy things like domain names for multiple years.
