@jean Oh, Iām so sorry. Thatās rough. I hope youāre physically okay. The mental part is natural and will certainly take a bit to recover from. Oof.
@jean Such a terrible feeling. I have also been a dog lover since growing up with one as part of our family. A few years ago, I was bitten by a dog who inexplicably bolted from the front door of a townhouse as I was walking home. Definitely shook me but eventually I got over it.
@jean I am so sorry! This sounds terrifying, trying to get back control. I hope you feel better soon!
@jean Last year, I tried to adopt a Saint Bernard who had been rescued from bad situation. He was a favorite at the shelter, and within that controlled environment, he was perfectly behaved. But within a week with me he became very protective, then aggressive. He was terrified of the world, and attacked two of my neighbors on one walk. I had to take him back, because I didnāt have the tools to help him. Hurt for a long time.
@jean Thatās shocking. I wonder what changed with the dog especially since it knew you. Hope you feel better about resuming your dog walks soon.
@jean I hate that this happened. Iām so sorry and wish you a speedy recovery, both physically and mentally.
@jean Thatās a horrible experience! I hope it doesnāt hinder you from your dog-walking routine forever. I was weary of dogs since I was little and got bitten by an old, retired police dog. It took until 2016 before I really loved a dog, as a lady that works here had a loving Parson-Russel terrier that switched it for me. I hope you reconnect with the stable dogs again soon, so your relationship with dogs arenāt broken. I hope youāll mend quickly. ā¤ļø
@jean Iām so sorry this happened to you! I hope you heal quickly and are eventually able to restore your relationship and confidence around dogs!
@jean weāve been dog stewards for a long, long time. Gone through many iterations of pack. One thing I have learned is that any dog will bite no matter how generally sweet or reliable. We had one dog that drew blood from every one of us. It almost was a family initiation ritual. That dog was pretty sweet most of the time, but under certain circumstances, mostly food he found, he would bite. That dog ate so many chicken bones found on the street. You could not take one away from him without drawing back a bloody stump. We learned his triggers and didnāt pull them.
Itās also possible the dog you were walking wasnāt feeling well or was in pain for some reason. That can turn an otherwise seeet dog nasty.
Itās an awful experience to have a dog turn on you and so sad you had it after so many years of good relationships with dogs. I hope you do get back in the saddle again.
@jean Best wishes for a full recovery. Our daughter was attacked by a friendās german shephered once. Left physical and mental marks that endure unfortunately.
@jean Oh Jean, what a horrible and traumatic situation. Hope you are recuperating okay, and that this doesnāt put you off dogs and the dog-walking for long.
@jean That is so horrible.
Iām so sorry and itās so hard to figure out why things like that happen.
@jean Oh, thatās awful, and so totally out of nowhere š I hope youāre physically okay, and are able to restore your connection with dogkind before too long.
@JMaxB It isnāt that much about the type of dog, but more about mad breeding practices that cause dogs that suddenly react like that. There are people who react in similar fashion when theyāre scared and insecure, that doesnāt mean all of us are like that
@jean Thatās terrible, I hope the emotional and physical damages arenāt too bad. Been in the same situation a few times and it can be really scary.
