This week Mark Zuckerberg met at Mar-a-Lago with a convicted criminal who is out on bail. I stopped posting to Instagram in 2017, but I keep giving Meta second chances. No more. It’s time to burn this shit to the ground and move forward with the open web. Let the past die. Kill it, if you have to.
@manton I agree, kill it with fire! The problem I have, is that I'm involved with several music fan groups across Facebook and Instagram. IG can be replaced fairly easily, but I'm not seeing a viable alternative for FB groups feature yet, and that will keep a lot of people using it.
@jacp Yeah, in some ways replacing Instagram is easier. Spin up a photo blog or use another more open photo platform. Facebook Groups is tough, so widely used.
@manton Makes my heart sink every time I use it, but there are a lot of people who are important to me on those groups. It's the only reason I use FB and I'm pretty sure plenty of other are in the same boat.
@jacp I am in the same situation. I'm doing the best I can to move my interactions with the people who matter to me to email, text messages, and Mastodon. It isn't easy. I have accept that fact that I'm going to lose of few people, but for the most part they aren't my core group anyway. Still, it is weird.
@bloftin2 Yeah, it sucks. The people in my case are musicians and their fans, it's not easy to persuade them to move! Naturally the musicians will go where the most people are, so I think I'm going to have to wait until the day FB implodes.
