@manton I love this idea. Jotting things down like this adds a little more motivation for me, so count me in. Any chance this could be added on to an actual live page on my site?
@sku_b Yes, I think that's the next thing to add. I've been a little conflicted about the best way for categories, pages, and bookshelves to fit together. I'm thinking maybe just a way to say "make this bookshelf a page on my blog" (and keep it updated automatically).
@manton count me in as a tester Manton. Looks like you’ve got all of the basics covered.
@manton What if -- a special feature of Bookmark-ing a book someone else posts, goes into your Want To Read shelf.
@manton This is very exciting. Count me as someone who would be happy to help test, or at least a 👍🏻 for the feature overall!
@manton Exciting for book readers, and there are a lot of you here.
That shipped sailed a long time ago for me, I'm about music and movies
@manton I like the idea very much. But I have to say that the “I want to read” bookshelf might have a tendency to be overloaded from certain users.
@manton wow that's so cool, I would love to try the beta if there are stil some places left :)
Can we also add comic books / manga by using the ISBN ? And are the lists and the books private until published ?
@podiboq Not too late, I'll keep adding people throughout the day. Good question about comics... Definitely graphic novels and collections. Not sure if individual comics are in the books database we use.
@manton books are a good start. If the feature will be used by the users maybe you'll be able to update it later with other databases. Excellent feature anyway
@manton Quick thought: I'd love to be able to set up a Category filter for Bookshelf posts. For example, automatically filter all posts I create by clicking "New Post” on a book into a "Books" or "Reading" category.
@bgilham That should be possible with the filters feature: Categories → Edit Filters → New Filter and then set some common text to match from the post like "Currently reading" or the 📚 emoji. We could make that more of a 1-click to enable if you already have a "Books" category, similar to what we do with photos.
@manton Having our own little bookshelves seems to be a very natural addition to the already great feature set of micro.blog, thank you for this! By the way: since it's still in beta, what's the best way to give feedback on this? I assume not over here as a reply?
@manton I think the 1-click was what I was suggesting, but you've also reminded me about how powerful these filters can be on text matching alone -- so thanks!
@manton Would love to try it out. Others may have already said this, but I'd like to see Recordshelves that links to my discogs want list. Thanks!
@manton Beta report: import by csv shelved all but almost twenty of over a hundred books due to Goodreads missing ISBNs. Proper shelves, too. Good stuff!
@Sylari Thanks! I'd like to find a solution to the "missing ISBNs" problem. It's not clear to me why Goodreads doesn't always include it, but maybe I can look up the details we need from the title and author in some cases.
@manton Hi Manton, I’ve some posts in my feed and a books category already. How do I get those to appear on he shelves?
@manton ooh. I'd love to try this. I need some encouragement to finish a couple of books I started :)
@jokef It will default to English, but you should be able to rename the bookshelves to French versions and they will still work correctly. Thanks!
@manton Whenever you choose to add more folks to the bookshelf beta, please add me. Thanks for all your work!
@manton lmk if you want intro to Emily. They could really do with some more open web vibe, I've been pushing them to that for a while, it's still pretty closed. But incredibly humanely designed product. Definitely a fellow slow & beautiful company.
@w4rner Thanks! I'm really impressed with Italic Type. I need to think a little more about interoperability betwee these kind of sites. At the very least, we need an export.
