@rossk Oh, bummer. I didn't realize that was such a new addition… Looks like "yarn" was added in 2018, so only the latest major versions of iOS and macOS.
@manton It's the same for "safety pin" and "thread", whilst "sewing needle" won't be out until next year. 😬
@manton Oh, also, yay for more tagmoji! It's also great to see the other apps will become similar to the web, with regard to the menu. 👍🏻
@manton Hmmm, I wonder what a good balance between tagemoji and expressive emoji would be? I often use 🎸 with “Rawking!” outside of any musical context. But I wouldn’t want to “pollute” the guitar tag… //@macgenie
@Bruce It's a good question, and I think we need to be okay with these tags not being 100% consistent all the time. It's just another way to discover posts. (@macgenie and I can prune the list though, if something completely off-topic shows up.)
@manton Awesome! Love the growing list of emojis for tagging and discover. Please add beer 🍺 or 🍻
@brucegodin @manton Seconded! Would be nice to include beer 🍺 🍻, but also wine🍷 , whiskey 🥃 , and cocktails🍹 🍸 in the mix sometime soon.
@manton With tagmoji, do they have to appear in what gets parsed for the timeline, or could I leave them at the end of a post like this to be a part of a discovery timeline? ❓
@brucegodin @grayareas You could both also check out @Burk's directory, which is a good place for collecting suggestions: micro.burk.io/discover
@simonwoods Thanks. I will check it out. Cool that someone is curating/collecting/making a directory of all this stuff
@sku\_b They have to appear in what would be visible in the timeline, yes. So, short posts with emoji anywhere in the text, or longer posts where the post title includes emoji. (Also, replies aren't currently included.)
@manton Great - many thanks for the cricket 🏏 tagmoji - in time for the final stages Cricket World Cup.
@manton the books emoji discovery is being dominated by a couple of 'Mr Kapowski' accounts whose posts dont seem to be at all book related.
@SciPhi Thanks, I'm cleaning this out now. I'm going to remove 🔖 because so many people use it for bookmarks.
@brucegodin Agreed! People keep making these sorts of things and then they can sit there as reliable sources of information, especially when they are maintained over time.
@manton @JohnPhilpin I agree with @brucegodin and @grayareas suggestions for drinks.
@simonwoods well if whiskey ... then also whisky ... and bourbon
And then you open the bag to tequila to name but one of many serious and varied alternatives.
// @manton @grayareas
@manton I would add the Whiskey Glass emoji for straight spirits, aka whiskey, gin, tequila, mezcal, etc. Then beer, wine, cocktails as discussed.
@simonwoods What do you think about the whiskey glass being expanded to cover prime liquors drank straight? Whiskeys are my favorite and probably deserve their own, but it maybe makes sense for that emoji to cover more.
@JohnPhilpin @manton @simonwoods Yeah. I am leaning toward thinking the glass of whiskey should stand for all prime liquors for the time being. What do you think?
@grayareas @manton @simonwoods yes pure unadulterated is one category .. fully decorated and mixed cocktails another — now why a whisk(e)y glass should represent all I will leave to wiser people.🤓
@JohnPhilpin @manton @simonwoods Yeah, it's the only emoji that works for "pure unadulterated" liquor drinking at the moment. Probably because the 'brown' reads but 'clear' liquors wouldn't. Technically it works for many aged rums, tequilas, and mezcals too. 😉 🥃
@grayareas @JohnPhilpin @simonwoods Good points. I'm still leaning toward keeping 🥃 with cocktails for now, even though it's not technically accurate, because it seems simpler and we could always split it off later when there are more posts.
@grayareas @manton @simonwoods It's a limitation of emoji, for sure. I often wished they'd have a pop-up choice to switch from red to white wine! But then what about rosé? And in Slovenia, they have orange wine. 😬
@MitchWagner Apparently it is made from white grapes and the color comes from contact with the skin. It sounds like a wine I would like. But it looks like cough medicine to me.
@tchambers Only emoji that comes to mind is 🌎 for the web, but I don't think many people would naturally use that. We could have a special collection where "IndieWeb" matches any post that includes IndieWebCamp, Micropub, Webmention, etc.
@vasta I’m adding avid orange wine connoisseur to your bio.
PS. I think of you a lot here in Ljubljana because now I am an avid pedestrian.
@manton that sounds good - I’ll bet we as a community have a lot of good posts on those terms that a tagmoji on that could help surface.
@vasta thanks, but I’m a pretty lightweight drinker. We don’t keep wine in the house even. I do enjoy the occasional glass when I go out though.
@macgenie wow. Orange wine sounds amazing. Also, look at all the walking. Nice one 💪😉👍
@macgenie Oh please try the orange wine and let us know. You are our point woman on exotic Slovene wines.
@manton By coincidence I just posted a item which has music note emojis which for some reason didn't make it to micro.blog. So, of course, it's not on the music discoverage page. Not a big deal, but I was puzzled. The URL is www.philipbrewer.net/2019/07/0...
@macgenie What app did you use for this? (I still haven’t found a good iOS app for tracking multi-day hikes.) Thanks!
