Before I went off walking I relaced my boots. In my photo the right boot is the old way (how they came from the shop). The left boot shows the new, incredibly much more comfortable, way. I should have done this a year ago… If you’ve never seen Ian’s Shoelace Site you should look.

Two boots on my feet with different lacing patterns.

@odd Ian's site has so many ways to lace shoes and boots. In this case it feels more like wearing comfy slippers with the new way.

@Miraz I have always tied mine the “factory setting”-way, but since I have a high area mid-foot, none has ever been comfortable. When will I learn? I remember seeing “Che - The Argentinian”, and when I saw they hit down the walls with a sledgehammer, I thought “Hah, a wall is just a suggested room-divider!”. I should have this mindset about all things. Everything is in “factory setting”, until you change it.

@odd Take a look at Ian's site and try some different lacing patterns. Or just copy the pattern in my photo. It'll change your walking world! 😀

@Miraz I second the wow. I struggle with ankle flexibility and I have a high instep , so leaving a gap seems like it should have been totally obvious. I have nerve problems, so tying laces isn't always easy, so the Ukrainan method is very tempting. Thank you.

@cliffordbeshers Yay! I haven't tried his one-handed tying method, but that amazed me.

@Miraz That looks really comfortable. Despite being a devotee of Ian’s shoelace site (l’ve used his secure knot for ages) I have never tried his gap lacing. I’ll give it a go!

@Miraz Oooo this is so interesting! thx so much for bringing it to my attention. Never occured to me that there might be a different way to lace. One of the other things I keep meaing to do it shorten the laces. Drives me knuts having way too much and the Undo factor. I keep saying I'll do it... 😀

@bsag Oh yes, his secure knot! Saved me the agony of forever tying double knots and then having to adjust them anyway.

@tomc That crossover lacing is really probably the worst way to lace footwear…

@garethjones Nice video. Won't switch me back from Ian's way of tying though. 😀

@Miraz, I may be odd. I don't like tying shoelaces. I've used this pattern for decades. However, I think I need longer laces. 😃

@Miraz Thx for the recommendation. I have shared it with my son who is always complaining about how stores lace their shoes.

Thank you for including a description of your photo. It means a lot to me when people take a little bit of extra time to describe things so people like me can feel included. Kudos, keep it up!

@Lynessence I aim to include alt text on every image. Glad you found it actually useful.

@Miraz 💜💜 I wis bigger platforms like instagram would make the option to add alt text more visible instead of hiding it in the advanced settings menu. I think more people would use it then, but I'm happy knowing smaller platforms like Mastodon have done this. Even Twitter is making an effort to promote alt text on images. I'm slowly reading more and more pic descriptions. :)

@Lynessence I dislike Facebook but have reason to sometimes be there. I very rarely post a photo. It was only recently I discovered it's possible to add Alt Text to an image on FB though it's tucked away in a very obscure place.

@Miraz Thanks for the link Miraz... I've been struggling with some boots that came from the shop with a weird lace pattern and the British army method l learnt as a youth don't work so I was wondering only this morning if there were viable alternatives and then I saw this.
