Listening to U2’s Songs of Surrender. I think I was expecting a kind of “Taylor’s Version”-style re-recording, but it’s more a new take like you’d hear at a concert. Love this. 🎵

@manton I just checked it out. Seems interesting! I put it on hold at the library. Thanks for the heads up!

@matt Cool! Also just in case it's not clear, there are 2 things: Surrender is a book by Bono, and Songs of Surrender is an album of re-recorded songs. Both good, although I haven't gotten far in the book yet.

@manton As a huge fan of the ‘old’ U2, I like this album with reimagined versions a lot.

@manton yeah, I learned about the book after reading a little article after seeing your post. Good to know the book is interesting. Thanks!

@manton Been giving it a go and digging some of the tracks. I’m a massive fan but not sold on the need for this but every artist has the right to revisit their material and update it (imagine if software was frozen at v1.0!). Good thing about U2 is they own all of their masters and never have to do something like Taylor

@manton I’ve been describing it as their best Sufjan Stevens impression.

@oddevan I completely see this—which is probably why I like it so much.

@manton it’s pretty great! “Pride” and “Bad” are especially well done.

My main complaint is that “Where the Streets Have No Name” feels like it has zero energy

@manton I listened to the first part (disk 1 I think - listened to it via Apple Music) neither loved nor hated it. I’ll listen to the rest but found it somewhat low energy
