I wrote this guide with Twitter users in mind. We’ve seen an uptick in folks trying out Micro.blog the last few days after the latest Twitter news, and I hope this helps explain how Twitter and Micro.blog are different and how they are the same.

@macgenie Nicely done, thank you. When I first arrived I was really confused because people mention MB in the same breath as Twitter. Your post helps clarify how the two relate.

@macgenie This is a great post for its exact purpose plus another broader audience: people for whom the IndieWeb can be intimidating. 👏

@macgenie i shared this to my other social media outlets. i also tired of twitter, but about six months ago, i unfollowed ALL my twitter people. i then ONLY added back people as i missed them. it's like a whole new beast!

@sergio\_101 One great hack I discovered this year is to choose "Disable Retweets" on almost everyone. It makes Twitter feel more like Micro.blog. 😇

@simonmumbles Good point. I still find the indieweb intimidating. I really want to spend more time on making it accessible to people who joined Twitter or Facebook for ease-of-use.

@macgenie I’ve been thinking along similar lines, although I’m leaning toward abandoning it altogether...

@donmacdonald Thanks for sharing that, no irony intended! I took the opportunity to read your other work on social media, and the preface of your Machiavelli comic. That is really cool. (PS. How do you know we are not related?)

@macgenie Great article :-) Regarding the part about discovery of current/former Twitter friends on Micro.blog, there’s also @jeffmueller’s ADN Finder. It’s not an automatic import of your Twitter following list or the like (which I think is what you’re referring to in the article), nor an official Micro.blog resource, nor complete (because a person has to add themselves), but it is a resource that’s available, and one the many examples of the community of user-developers already building things around M.b :-)
