Reminded by this post from Vincent that Arq exists. I used it years ago when I was frustrated with something from Backblaze, but I didn’t stick with it. Going back to it, backing up to S3 and skipping a backup subscription altogether.

@manton Big fan of Arq here. It just works.

I bought the one-time payment license and have used it without any issues for close to years. I back up my laptop to Backblaze B2 and an external hard drive that I carry with me. No subscription, just a monthly invoice from Backblaze for less than a dollar.

@manton Heard good things about Cloudflare's R2 as a drop-in S3 replacement. https://www.cloudflare.com/en-gb/developer-platform/r2/ Storage costs are apparently much more agreeable w/ R2.

@manton Ah, I will have to check this out, especially as I think Backblaze raised their prices relatively recently. As luck has it, I'm up for renewal, so I better check it out quick. :)

@manton I’m using Arq to back up to the cloud, but I’m also running MinIO (https://min.io) locally and using Arq to back up to that as well.

@manton I use Arq for in-house backups but the pricing of cloud storage is too expensive for me to use Arq for off-site. I used to begrudgingly use CrashPlan and now Backblaze. It's just a price question.

@manton I’m a big fan of Arq, I’ve been using it for years, across multiple computers. The stand-alone is subscription free and it’s always nice to support small developers.

@manton @vincent aren't your S3 charges going to dwarf what Backblaze costs though?
