So before getting into the weeds too much, I should reconsider micro.blog. Is it worth the money? Aside from monetary considerations, it also has a single point of failure, only one developer. Not a problem with an app, big problem with a service.

@renevanbelzen I personally think Micro.blog is well worth the money, especially when you factor in that some other hosted solutions are far more expensive (ignoring entirely the community aspect, which frankly cannot be matched). In terms of the bus factor having a sole developer, there are other popular services — like Blot for example — that are in the same boat. While it’s a concern, I don’t think it’s enough to warrant depriving yourself of the opportunity to use these great services.

With time hopefully Manton can bring on extra developers to the project.

@renevanbelzen I think it comes down to what you need from a service. Micro.blog is at the core a blog hosting service. If you decide you want to leave (or we closed up shop), and you’ve used your own domain to publish, you still have your your blog posts that you can move to another provider to host your domain.

If you are treating it as a separate place for microposts only, and are using only user.micro.blog to host the posts, then you don’t benefit from the portability. You could export your posts to take them to another provider, but the links would not persist. In that case, I appreciate the concern.

@pimoore @renevanbelzen Thanks! We definitely plan to have other developers in the future.

@renevanbelzen Honest opinion: you needn’t put pressure on yourself in terms of how long it takes you to write a post, so long as you’re still enjoying the process. If you’re not enjoying writing then that’s something different, and obviously you need to decide what you’re comfortable with.

As far as writing on iOS goes, if you’re using an iPad I’d strongly recommend picking up an external keyboard if you don’t already have one. I can’t stand typing with the onscreen keyboard either for anything long form.

@renevanbelzen curious… what app are you using to type your posts? If it’s Gluon… then… well… maybe I can fix something.

@renevanbelzen Maybe not helpful - But I do all of my personal blogging on my iPad Pro (2018) . I type everything in ByWord first. Even replies. Then swipe over and paste. A little bit of a 2 step process. But I am faster with shortcuts in byword if I want to add a link or a little markdown. I think for personal blogging - micro.blog is hands down the best there.

@renevanbelzen Understandable. Would you want to host them at the domain you have now? Maybe some other folks can help with how they use Micro.blog and other services together. I would post a question in the Help Forum category External Sites and ask about how others use their external sites with Micro.blog. I think you probably need the external site rather than moving everything to Micro.blog hosting because we don’t support animated GIFs, like your pixel animations.
