@manton Thanks, I found that this morning and it was a big in help in fixing (or at least understanding) my WP post problems
@manton Excellent. A big part of mico.blog's attraction is the open nature. But I do worry/wonder about monetization and long term sustainability…I'm sure you have a plan! :)
@PhoneBoy I read your post and think it'll help a lot of people too. I wanted to keep this simple, but I have a whole section in my book about Webmention and WordPress. I'll likely move some of that over to the help site as well.
@PhoneBoy Thanks for the write-up on your site. I'm hoping the Semantic-Linkbacks was the missing piece for me. Still trying to figure out why micro.blog posts go to my site with comments deactivated (they're active everywhere else)
@chet Thanks for your support! I wasn't sure I'd sell it at first, but a lot of people missed the Kickstarter.
@manton Thanks for the guide, very helpful. 👍Just wish there was a more simple alternative WordPress markdown solution. 😐
@PhoneBoy Thank you so much for the mention of Semantic-Linkbacks. I've wanted this functionality but haven't had a chance to investigate how to make it happen. Does it retroactively fix the old posts? Or just new mentions?
@40Tech I couldn't tell for sure from
Still trying to figure out why micro.blog posts go to my site with comments deactivated (they're active everywhere else)
if this known issue is what you're seeing with comments or it's something else.
@40Tech A few weeks ago I started looking around for a WP filter solution for the interim, but I found nothing, so I started trying to figure out how to write one. Then the holidays were over and I got too busy to finish figuring it out :-(
@smokey I wouldn’t even know where to begin. I can poke around in WordPress files just enough to be dangerous.
@40Tech I'm probably not that far ahead of you :-) I mostly employ the Google method of hacking on WordPress…all of the really interesting stuff I use or customize comes from someone else (for Micro.blog-related bits, that's generally been @colinwalker).
@smokey That’s how I do it. It took me all day last weekend to get my site to display linked post titles how I wanted them.
@mmarfil Yes, our next step is to add more built-in themes, but I'd like a way to upload or link custom themes. Not sure the best way to handle it yet.
@manton Could we get a way to preview themes with dummy content? The thumbnails are tiny, and when setting up a new blog there's no actual content yet so activating a theme and looking at your empty blog isn't very effective.
@mmarfil @manton I feel the same way. I have my own domain and site on GH Pages (planning for another server) and want to keep that. But also want to support your cause. How do I crosspost to frank.micro.blog from diggingthedigital.com
@manton this might be a stupid question, but can replies (like this) show on my wp blog as an in-reply-to post kind? And if the way to do it is to create the reply on my blog first can it be linked to show in the app as part of a conversation?
@grib Yes, with some limitations. Check out this help page to start with. We'll continue to improve this for external sites.
@PhoneBoy Your "one stop Indieweb shop" guide was very helpful at getting things set up on my end. Many thanks! P.S. It appears your website is throwing 502 bad gateway errors.
@manton I tried to click on the link for this post both today and a day or two ago and it comes back with Site Not Found (and shows DreamHost logo at bottom) www.manton.org/2018/01/u...
