Bought the Sony RX100 VII yesterday. Not really an impulse buy… I’ve been thinking about this camera for 2 years. No new Macs or other gadgets for a while.

@manton nice! 🥳I happily spent my tech budget on a Fujifilm X100V. No new phone or computer for at least another year. These compact cameras are a blast. Just a whole different & better experience compared to an iPhone camera.

@kurite @otaviocc Cool! So far my family is a bit skeptical about a dedicated camera, so hoping to get some good shots soon to justify it. Love the size. Still learning a lot.

@manton I have an 8 year old RX100. Or probably I should say “used to have” as our teenage daughter appropriated it a couple years ago.As impressive as an iPhone camera is (highly so) I still find cameras to have a place. Most especially I find it much easier to customize a short with a camera compared to an iPhone. That’s part of why I still have my DSLR. I can adjust a lot of settings without taking my eye away from the viewfinder.

Enjoy your “splurge”. If nothing else a camera will have you looking at photo opportunities through “new eyes”.

@mpmilestogo Oh, almost all photos I take are with my iPhone 12 and with a couple of kids I don’t bother with my cameras much anymore.

@manton I got an original RX100 for a decent price recently. It’s still a great little camera.

@manton the best camera is the one with you – so following that I got a small camera bag, neck with with enough slack as a cross strap, and a wrist strap from Gordy’s Camera Straps. Makes it easy to keep the camera with me wherever I go and really gets used more.

@stefp Serious question: Is a point and shoot camera much better than a recent iPhone?

@JeffPerry @JeffPerry Phone cameras are fine but I’ve always felt they were a little bit overhyped. I like the other options that a point and shoot can give.
