I never met any fans of Until The End Of The World (1991) on Twitter. Now I’ve found two on Micro.blog to be founding members of the UTEOTW support group. @helgeg @rnv 🌏 🔚 🎥 🇮🇹 🇫🇷 🇩🇪 🇵🇹 🇷🇺 🇨🇳 🇯🇵 🇺🇸 🇦🇺 🚗🚊 🛫🛬🛫🛬🛫🛬🚆🚆🛫🛬🛬🚢🛫🛬🚀

@macgenie I haven't seen it in years, but remember really enjoying it when it came out, and used to have it on videotape. The soundtrack is still a favorite album in my collection.
@macgenie Wait, it came out in 1991? Really? I was only in Edinburgh in late June or early July of 1992 visiting an old friend, so… Oh, that’s right: Xmas Day 1991!
Hm. Remember when movies stayed in theaters for months and months and months?… Remember when movies were in theaters at all?…
@macgenie Which version, though? I think I saw the five-hour one, and there was also a version that was eight hours. Or was it twelve? Something crazy, anyway.
Sadly, though, I remember almost nothing about it.
@devilgate Damn, that’s right. I only saw the theatrical release, which ran maybe 3 hours? And then the VHS version that was widely available was essentially the same, as far as I recall. But that crazy-long “full” version was eight at most, but not twelve.
@macgenie Count me in! Love that movie — saw it in the theaters, bought the VHS. Listened to the soundtrack over and over.
And mentioned it on Twitter semi-recently: twitter.com/brentsimm...
@macgenie The Criterion Collection is releasing a new restoration of the 287-minute cut in just a few days. I'm torn between wanting to pick it up and wondering when I'll have a spare five hours to devote to watching it.
@macgenie I only saw it once, when I rented it on VHS, long ago, when I still lived in Madison. I had to take frequent breaks to sit on the porch and go "OMG."
@djwudi Instabuy. Now I need to upgrade my BluRay player. I haven't been a collector, but this could be the beginning.
@strandlines Finding all these kindred spirits, who admire/loved a film brushed off by many--this made my day. 🎥🌏🔚
@emma I owned the VHS, and then it seemed like forever before it came available on digital. I think it had something to do with the soundtrack? I'm super excited for the Blu-ray I just ordered. I don't have the TV to do it justice, but someday...
@macgenie can I propose that it is called the UTEOTW Appreciation Society? Support group sounds too much like we need help 😉😄. And do we have to do the full emoji-string in relevant posts?
@strandlines You are right, of course. I'm a bit obsessed with the movie, and may have even done some Claire-inspired road tripping in the 90s 😏, but I have matured into an appreciator.
@macgenie hang on I love Wim Wenders Wings of Desire but I can’t recall seeing this. Adding to my list
@adamprocter It’s definitely Wim Wenders, but quite a different story experience. It’s the evolution of Alice In The Cities, a road trip movie with a young Rüdiger Vogler who has an important role in UTEOTW.
@macgenie Wings of Desire is my favourite of his along with UTEOTW. Living in Lisbon, I am also partial to Lisbon Story, which also has Rüdiger Vogler in it.
@macgenie I’ve been meaning to re-watch WOD and discover other stuff by wenders: you’ve just filled my watch list for the foreseeable future!
