Thinking about consumerism… I have no need for new gadgets, so I’ll skip Apple’s presentation today. It’s just another sales pitch to unload some of the burden of having disposable income, preying on FOMO of the tech and adjacent enthusiasts. This is how I rationalize it 👨‍💻

@rom Change is hard, especially one's own habits. Those neural paths are persistent, as are those of our friends.

Not that Apple cares (although they might say they do, through spin and seemingly profound statements) about all this. The company (as an abstraction) is there to extract money from its customers, pure and simple capitalism. Its employees might care (or think they care) about other things as well.

Self-actualizing customers don't give in to consumerism, and only buy what they actually need or decided on their own they want as a luxury item to enhance their lives.

@renevanbelzen I usually watch the presentation simply because they are interesting and entertaning to me. I have found no personal correlation between watching tech presentations and buying new gadgets.

@jeroensangers Then you are stronger than me. I found myself totally caught by the reality distortion field of Apple's presentations, drooling over those new gadgets I can't afford, nor actually need at the moment. But I wants them anyway, my precious. ✨💍✨
