@bix I haven't heard any rumbles about a specific tagmoji for 'blogging' yet

@bix @burk I have often wondered if there was a way to aggregate all long-form (non-micro) under a particular Discover section. Sometimes I’ve done time to spare and am done with my timeline and want to read some longish blogposts. I know, I know RSS feed readers exist.

@pratik @bix @burk Mostly there are the occasional rumbles for a Timeline filter to show only titled (and thus potentially long-form) posts—but that only would get you “blog posts of people you follow”…

@smokey @bix @burk I meant in the Discover section, like how tagmojis are listed.

@pratik @smokey @bix @burk I like this idea a lot. Longer posts are explicitly discouraged with regard to featuring in the main Discover timeline, and whilst I understand and agree with this decision it would be good to see a long-post-specific section to balance that out.

@pratik @bix @burk @simonwoods et al: I like this idea. We wouldn’t be able to curate it, but if it could be done as an automatic feed of linked articles, I could see it being feasible. Let me check into it.

@simonwoods I agree this would be a good idea. We need to balance out micro blogging and long post blogging. It's not just in discovery, most features on MB lean towards short posts and replies which makes it less satifactory as a long post blog platform.

@bix Initially we were quite focused on the self-contained micro posts. Discover has a dual role, helping current users find people but also representing the M.b content to visitors who want an idea of what it’s like. I have been adding more links to longer posts and truncated posts as they have become more common. Still, I think it would be nice to have a feed to longer posts for those who have time to dig into them.

One issue would be that not every link micropost goes to a longer post. Some people link to things they like or a two-sentence quote. You would have to wade through a few entries that don’t lead to longer posts.

@macgenie @bix @burk @simonwoods Of course. I wouldn't expect manual curation. I was thinking more of an automatic feed that has posts with > 280 characters. I would may be set that limit a bit higher (> 500) just to make sure these are long-form posts.

@macgenie The default Discover should always have self-contained posts. After all, this is...micro blog :) But yeah, it would help to have a section (can even be a firehose) of all long-form posts. Like I mentioned in the other thread, you could set a higher limit for characters.

@bix @pratik I was just relating the (related) thing I had heard people asking for before, even though it’s not quite what you were asking for (but I do think it speaks to the desire, generally speaking, for better visibility of long-form/traditional blog posts, which is also what you’re after).

@macgenie I know @manton has said next steps for micro.blog will include having more curators, and when it does, I bet there will be more flexibility and capability to do this kind of thing. (And as an IndieWeb librarian, if that's ever a job, I'll want to apply.)

@bix Some people link to a post on their own blog that is solely a link to a post on another person’s blog.

Ultimately it’s a @manton question , so I won’t be mentioning it to him until he’s finished the project he’s currently wrapping up. 📖 😇

In the meantime I’ll try to identify more 280+ posts that would be good to add to Discover.

@kimberlyhirsh Thank you! I would love to have input from people who are actually trained in this area. 😅

Yes, it’s on the roadmap, and I hope it will come in the not-too-distant future. We have a book to publish and an IndieWeb Camp to put on, so we are pretty busy until March.

@macgenie @pratik @bix @burk @simonwoods I exclusively write long posts here (and I generally prefer to read them, too) so I’m 100% on board with all of the above. 😅

@pratik with you ... surely an easy solution to see how it goes .... and refine later ... though titled posts wouldn’t be picked up - eg long form blot posts ..... but would work well with long form titleless - a la @bix

// @macgenie @simonwoods

That said - maybe also a long form emoji to be added to the wish list @burk ?
