@manton I agree. He seemed to say, “We built something a lot more complicated than we intended to. But you liked it, so we’re keeping it. Now we’re going to build what we really meant to build.” ⁉️
@gdp Right. They are sort of figuring it out as they go, which is not great as a business model, but hopefully it works out. They’ve got good ideas.
@manton I've used Arc for about 2 years and it has become my work and research browser. I had a really good set of functionality. When that video started I was concerned that it would change, as it has been really well honed and crafted.
Keeping iterations going is a good step and new app.
@manton I don’t know if they’ll stick around, I hope so, but I actually like the transparency. I think the majority of startups go through this kind of confusion, they just hide it or try to pass it off as always intended. The Broswer Company are airing their confused laundry, as they have all along, and I think it’s a refreshing approach.
@pratik That’s a good summary. I like a lot of things about Arc, but it’s intended to be a desktop-first app. I am, by a wide margin, mobile first, and the iOS app definitely feels more like a companion app. To be fair, that’s how they describe it. But it’s a strange philosophy.
@manton I don't understand the video, but I know that I like their current browser, leaving Safari behind for most things...
@gdp That’s true. The Arc Search is what I imagined they want to create for the desktop. But as they said, if they want to create something for their family, wouldn’t Arc Search be good?
@manton wow, definitely a strange video. So strange to hear them talking about a product and then saying that they know it isn’t for everyone. Isn’t that like the exact opposite of the messaging they should be sending? So strange. maybe they should move to Nebraska where I believe their state motto is, “honestly, it’s not for everyone.“ :)
