Do you use a case for your phone?
@Burk definitely
@Burk No case. My reasoning: if Apple had designed the iPhone for a case, they would've included one in the box. But I totally get that some people prefer one (and I encourage my kids to have a case).
@Burk yep.
I didn’t for years, but then broke the screens of two phones in a short amount of time. I use a folio case with one card slot that holds my transit RFID card.
@Burk Sometimes. If I'm travelling I’ll use a wallet case so everything is in one place. Day to day I don’t, because my phone is already too big and heavy.
@Burk I use a case. iPhones are too slippery without one. It's either a case or put friction tape on the edges which would be even uglier.
@Burk I didn’t plan it explicitly, but a case has kept my 6S+ pristine. I just went to iOS 13 and took the case off and (I know I don’t have all the hot new features but) it feels like a new phone.
@Burk I didn’t up until the XS. Now they are too big, too thin, too slippery, and too much glass on the back. For the XS and the 11 Pro, I use(d) the Apple leather case.
@Burk Yes. Always. I need it to be grippier, and I also like not worrying about scratching it up. I've never had damage from the occasional drop when the case was on. But I have had damage when it wasn't on.
@Burk Yup. As minimal as possible, but I've dropped inexpensive things enough to want to make sure my expensive things have a little extra protection. :)
@Burk yes, but only so that my phone sits on the holder in my car, it has a magnet thing that I've put into my iPhone case, the alternative was sticking it to the phone and I'm just not down with that.
With that all said, I really like the interface changes for CarPlay in the latest OS updates, so I could go case free if I can change the habit of placing my phone in the holder when I get in the car.
@Burk I do not. My wife uses an Apple case along with a screen protector. Our teenage daughter uses a el cheapo Amazon type case with no screen protector.
N.B. Her el cheapo case, which we replace about once a year, has protected her phone from I don’t know how many drops. I think she drops her phone every day and never broke it (4 years).
@Burk I kept a case on my 4S for three years (funds were tight), then went a year without one & realized the flat-sided design was inherently grippy. My 6s Plus brought me the bar of soap aesthetic, so I went back to a case; I’ve used one on the XS Max & 11 Pro Max, too.
@Burk I’m off and on. Particularly if I have to put it in my tripod mount, it’s in a case since it likes to come shooting out of it. But I do like the feel without a case.
@manton what if they designed it for a case but did not include one so you would spend extra money?
@Burk Yes, an Apple leather case on a 7 Plus. Although I rarely drop it, I feel safer for it.
@Burk yes, it is like new shoes. I have the apple leather case and I even went so far as to get a watch band that matches it. I know matchie matchie.
@Burk Yes, because no matter how extremely careful I am with pocket-sized objects, stuff always happens :-(
@tgray I agree the phones are too slippery. I ordered the Apple leather case for my 11 Pro. I had a leather case on my iPhone 7.
@bradenslen I agree. I hope rumors of a 2020 iPhone with iPhone 4ish design might happen. Maybe with som additional friction in the alumin(I)um.
@Burk I mostly haven't, as I've preferred the feel of the "naked" device. But the iPhone XS is so big and so slippery (and I've had SO many close calls—in its defense, it's proven very resistant to damage) that I've decided to pick one up. 😓
