@mpospese @manton posting from iOS has been busted since at least v3.1 I just wrote “Test Post” and it gets created as a full blog post instead of a simple status update. Also, it never sets the Category nor remembers my choice.

@mpospese @manton (This had been working fine for 5 years prior to recent app updates.)

@mpospese @manton I suppose it’s also possible that a WordPress update broke this and not the iOS app update although I did notice it just after 3.1 was released. Still, I would hope the iOS app can write proper status posts and set Categories to WP.

@mpospese We removed the post formats support in 3.0 because it seemed like WordPress was moving away from that feature. Categories must be a bug, looking into that and will fix it as soon as possible.

@manton but how else is one to host short posts on their blog?

@mpospese Using categories seems more in line with how WordPress works now. What version of WordPress are you using? I don't even see a post format option in new versions of WordPress, like they are hiding it.

@manton My problem was that Microblog was treating every short post as a blog post. That’s because I had a function to autogenerate a date stamp title for all title-less posts, but that’s what Microblog apparently uses since 3.0 to decide how to format the post.

@manton Anyway, removing that script and leaving them title-less solves my problem (apart from the Category, but I worked around that by configuring a default Category for all posts). Thank you for clarifying the changes and the reason for them. Finally the iOS app is usable for me again!

@mpospese Okay, thanks! I’ll make sure the category problem is fixed for the next update.

@manton I see it in my post editing page running 6.3.1 -- I think themes use them less and less, but I still have multiple sites built using them because I can then change display without adding a needless extra category to differentiate within one category stream (and then having to exclude that category in other places, etc.)

@chrislott Good to know, thanks. We still have a preference for this in the Mac app, so maybe we should bring it back on iOS too.

@manton To be clear, my use isn't integrated with micro.blog, I just wanted to share that post formats are still used more generally :)
