@vincent I’ve read a lot about Metaverse lately and I don’t get it at all. Everything from immaturity of technology to actually implement it to tying it to artificial scarcity stinks (and we are not even mentioning the unhealthy world were it to succeed).

I’ve decided that I will not touch anything related to it professionally. I assume this waves hand wildly to the direction of Metaverse will fail gloriously. If it won’t: I’ll be happy, slightly grumpy, old man walking in a forest.

@vincent last night we watched We Met in Virtual Reality. Really interesting while being sad and a little creepy. Everyone seemed to have their traumas. One woman had attempted suicide. Another was getting over the death of someone close and important. Another was suffering from the isolation of COVID. I think there was some value in this, but also sad that there were not real world places and people to turn to. The documentary is slow in places but I thought worth watching.

@vincent amen!! It’s not just a poorly designed idea from a technical standpoint, it’s actively harmful. I don’t understand how people don’t see it for what it is - a way for the rich to get richer at others’ expenses.

@vincent But we must consume! …and pretend there is a wonderful world online that is more important than the ”real” world, because that one is crashing and burning anyway. 🙄

@Archimage Nightmares DeLuxe! I remember seeing a movie in the early 80s about VR helmets, and how bad it can get, but I don’t remember the title.

@Archimage It could be it… I think of the title “Scanners” for some reason, but I’m not sure.
