Huge deal with Netflix buying Warner Bros. for $83 billion including HBO Max. If it goes through, will be in the top 10 largest acquisitions of all time. From The Verge, no immediate hope of combining subscriptions:

In its announcement Netflix suggests it has no immediate plans for drastic change at Warner Bros., describing HBO and HBO Max as a “compelling, complementary offering” alongside its own streaming service, and saying it will maintain the studio’s current operations “including theatrical releases for films.”

I assume they’ll have a bundle, similar to early Disney+ and Hulu.

@manton Infinite Timelines, Netflix just becomes Comcast in 20 years and charges $250 a month for hundreds of ‘channels’ that still have advertisements but nothing good to watch.

@AdamChandler It is disappointing how it is more expensive now to subscribe to all the streaming services than it was to have old-school cable with every channel. More flexibility, more content, but too much to juggle.

@manton that would be a great combination as a consumer. One less app.

@manton I’ve gone back I’ve gone back to owning music physically and movies. There’s still some places you can purchase lossless music, including iTunes for now and either play from Apple Music or host on my NAS to play anywhere. With movies, I see blue ray etc are becoming popular again - I just don’t have a CD slot anymore LOL

@manton I worry for what this means for the AppleTV queue, which HBO generally supports integration with. My guess is that Netflix ends it just like their main app, which was one of the reasons why in a sea of subs that I have now that I finally dropped Netflix.
