I take a lot of photos that I imagine posting to my blog, but then they just kind of sit in my photo library. @macgenie previews a 30-day photo challenge that will start next month, including new Micro.blog pin! This is going to be fun.

@manton @macgenie Would this challenge be the perfect excuse to get a new phone? No ? Okay

@Gabz @macgenie 🙂 I don't like to upgrade my phone very often, but it's always cameras that eventually get me to do it. (Actually thinking about buying a new "real" camera this year, but not in time for this challenge.)

@manton @macgenie I have a "real" camera which I do enjoy using, I dont take as many pictures with my phone to be honest. But I would like to upgrade my phone still 😅

@manton @macgenie Most of my photos these days are of our kids and they’ve reached the age I don’t feel comfortable posting them. This challenge will push me to make more of an effort to diversify. 📷

@manton Excellent! I try to post every day, but not always with a photo. Now that must change…

@jayroddi Thanks, I'll check it out! I was thinking the Sony RX100 VII. I'd love something that takes great photos (especially better than the iPhone at distance) but is still compact enough that I want to bring it with me.

@manton I bought one of those a few years ago (older generation obviously). It is nice, feels solid, and is the next best thing to a phone in terms of carry-ability.

@ronguest Good to know, thanks!

@jayroddi Cool. I've never actually held either the Sony or Fuji, so I may need to find a store to look them over first. Not in a rush to buy one, but pretty sure I will this year.

@manton This reminds me that I need to figure out how to post photos to my blog this year now that OwnYourGram has been so neutered. It currently takes at least 3 iOS apps and GitHub just to post a text post to my blog, so this should be fun.

@pat Wow! Let me know if you have any questions. You might want to check out one of the Micropub → GitHub gateways on this page, because then you could use the Micro.blog iOS app.

@manton One other option is to rent a camera or two for a few days. I used LensRentals last week to test a camera and some lenses. They have an option to purchase and have your rental fee deduct from the final price. There’s a referral for $25 off, if you’d like.

@zap Good idea. I love our local camera place, but looks like they only rent much higher-end cameras and lenses than what I'm looking for.

@jayroddi Gah! I know the feeling. If they add WR, I might be tempted.

@jayroddi happy for you. I recently bought a used X-T3 and I’m enjoying it a lot. Thing is, I love a X100V if the lens were 23/2 but with the quality of the 23/1.4. I have that and it’s my absolute favourite.

@jayroddi If they could make a WR X100 series I would consider selling the rest of my Fuji gear just to have it. Until I can afford whatever Leica Q is out, that camera is a perfect daily companion.

@jayroddi I totally get where you’re coming from. My faves are the 23/1.4 and the 90/2. I bought the X-T3 to replaced my X-T1 that I was still using alongside my X-Pro2 and I wanted that schweet EVF of the X-T3. My hopes for the X100V’s lens a different because I think that …

@jayroddi 23/2 is plenty for a camera like this and I’d much rather they improve the optical quality in terms of corner to corner sharpness and improve the sharpness wide open around the minimum focus distance. That’s the only thing that has kept me from going X100F or XF23mmF2.

@jayroddi I made the mistake of picking one up at the Leica store in Las Vegas (a great place to kill time if you’re stuck there on a work trip) and I have regretted it ever since. I love my Fuji, but those cameras are in a completely different class.
