After hours of downtime with our primary photo storage, I’ve given up on Linode and started restoring failed uploads and switching to our S3 backup. Very disappointing. I’ll post a final update to @news when everything is back online. I also learned some new things to make this more robust.

@manton I am deeply unimpressed with both Linode and Digital Ocean for real services and not things that are just one simple server. We have had an incredible experience with Render.

@manton Thanks for keeping us updated! I can understand that it’s frustrating, but it’s good to hear it also gave you some new ideas to make it more robust.

@jsonbecker I think I’ve been burned by Linode for the last time. Luckily we’ve already expanded to Hetzner in Europe, and there’s plenty of AWS pieces too. I’ll check out Render too.

@manton the best thing I can say about the Render experience is that it massively reduced how much we have to think about infrastructure. Their support is generally good, but the enterprise support is out of this world.

@manton oh that’s makes sense I have never been sold by linode… it always looks too good to be true which is why I stuck with my local server team - and I was getting annoyed with Mb this week to be frank

@adamprocter If there was anything annoying in particular, let me know. (Other than today’s photo problems, which should be resolved now.)

@manton I think it was today’s photos but being on another time zone it’s hard to tell 🤷

@manton No worries! I figured it might be underlying infrastructure. Work for me is in the cloud, so I feel your pain in more ways than one.
