After reading this article about pricing uncertainty with the .org top-level domain being sold, I just renewed manton.org registration until 2029. Still wish domain names were easier and cheaper.

@manton Thanks for the heads up! I got some .orgs too. Used to be a time when they all were $9.95 or something like that…
@manton this is just plain WRONG ... its like a private compnay owning an Interstate Highway
@JohnPhilpin Agreed. I'm okay with some companies making money on newer domains, but there should be plenty of domains run by non-profits at essentially break-even prices. I also wish there was a free option.
@odd Looks like I paid about $13/year via Name.com, which is what we now use for offering Micro.blog domain name registration too.
@manton @JohnPhilpin Meanwhile, Jack Dorsey considers Twitter to be a public utility and nobody bats an eyelid. As ever, our priorities as a group are all over the place.
@Gabz Cloudflare launched as a registrar last year. If you have your site on their service, even the free tier, they’ll sell you domains at cost. So for .org, it’s $10.11 plus a few cents for ICANNs fee
@chet so cloudflare is like Hover, I could transfer my domain to them and they’ll handle it just the way Hover would and point it to Mb?
@manton I somehow lost my .org a number of years ago and some rando Chinese site has been holding onto it. Has been very annoying but nothing I can do.
