@manton. What's this do?

widget doohickey on micro.blog that switches between bluesky and micro.blog replies.

Is this a precursor to m.b getting its own PDS maybe?

@starrwulfe Getting its own PDS is the long-term plan. I still haven't completely wrapped my head around everything that will be involved yet. For now, with cross-posting enabled we copy replies back and forth, but it could be more integrated later.

@manton How does @snarfed.org do it with the BridgyFed bridge? I seem to recall he set up a PDS to handle everything— he might be a good resource to bounce ideas off of.

@starrwulfe @snarfed.org Yes, I will bug him frequently with questions. 🙂 Pretty sure he wrote his own PDS inside Bridgy.

@manton
all I ask is that when ya do, there's good notes on a git server somewhere I can ~~copy~~ study as well 😁

This stuff is super interesting, but my short attention span gets me into trouble every time.

@starrwulfe @manton PDS? I haven’t come across that, and googling brings up too many possibilities.

@devilgate @starrwulfe Personal Data Server. It’s Bluesky’s term for the storage server for your posts which can be run anywhere.

@manton @devilgate it’s also what lends ATproto (the open source tech stack behind Bluesky) its decentralization along with nomadic identity baked into the platform. You should be able to change PDSs to rehost your data and identity and nothing would change externally to your followers.
