Created a page to track my goal of visiting all the Texas state parks. It’s a pretty daunting list, but it’ll be fun to update it throughout the year. This is the kind of thing you lose if everything is just a post on someone else’s social platform.
@manton We camped at Lake Somerville over new years! Highly recommend Birch Creek Unit's Yaupon camping area. Doesn't get super busy, hiking access to the lake, and all sites are walking distance to the bathroom.
@alexink They aren’t all winners, but there’s quite a lot of variety too… forests, deserts, lakes, mountains. Big state. 🤠
@ddanielson @manton Texas has only two National Parks but both of them are mountains-based. Big Bend is the more famous one but Guadalupe Mountains NP is pretty impressive too.
@manton I love Eisenhower State Park. It's only an hour from me, but it has camping, cool rocky beaches, and a sandy beach. Plus its a good place for a kayak/boat, if you have one.
@manton I saw you talk about this goal before, but I was just motivated to try this for Oregon, especially since we hit a state natural area on Jan 1. But then I just looked it up and… Oregon has 197 state parks. Only one national park, but between that count and our entire coastline being public land… it’s a lot. 😜
@incanus Wow, that is a lot! I stayed at a few along the coast about a year ago when I was in Oregon. Felt like I only saw a small slice of what’s there, though.
@dave Nah. I thought about getting stamps or stickers, but I think “collecting” the visits on my blog is a better fit.
@pratik Texas actually has a number of national parks, they just aren’t “named” National Parks. But the NPS thinks of them as all the same and by law must treat them the same too. Fort Davis NHS and Lyndon B Johnson NHP are two under-the-radar favorites of mine in TX.
