It’s bad enough that Linode dropped their logo, but now prices are going up by 20%? I haven’t done the math but this is going to be a big hit to our Micro.blog hosting costs. Not happy.
@manton I’ve been a Linode customer for years and have received multiple storage upgrades without any price increases. This actually seems like it might be overdue.
@manton Looking at the 7 servers I run I decided to check out Digital Oceans pricing and was disappointed to see that Linode is just matching them. DO should take advantage and drop pricing a bit. I am sure a lot of people would migrate.
@ddykstal Maybe so. I'm usually the last person to gripe about prices, but this doesn't feel right so close after the acquisition. Looks like it will cost us a couple hundred extra dollars a month.
@stephencollins That's interesting. I've never seriously looked at Digital Ocean, but I guess good that it's consistent.
@manton have you thought of financing campaigns for those who would love to help you out with this challenge?
@numericcitizen Not really. I think it's better for us to focus on growing subscriptions and also making Micro.blog Premium more valuable. That way we're prioritizing the whole platform and it benefits everyone. I appreciate it, though!
@manton I’ve got 5 servers on Digital Ocean. It just works, at least in my case. Documentation has been good to great for the issues I’ve faced. Pricing has inched up over the years but you can still get a minimal server for $4-12/month. The only irritation being 2FA emails take a long time to arrive. Ironically I just decommissioned a Linode server just as the branding transition began.
