I unfollowed 1,300 people for my June experiment and blogeliblogged about it. 👀
@pratik Hehe, no, Micro.blog has around 5,000 monthly active users. And a lot of the people I followed (I think the majority) were on other Fediverse platforms and Bluesky.
@MitchW The main reason is that if I do go back (and I’m still not sure I will), I want a fresh start, just to follow the people I truly miss. But also, it’s so easy to slip back into old habits. I’m just human, so unfollowing everyone was me being kind to my future self. Making it harder to slip and fail the experiment. 😊
@sod Makes sense! I look forward to hearing how the experiment went.
I quit social media for a month in June 2022. Alas, I don’t know that it made much difference. Cal Newport says you have to first decide what you’re going to do instead of social media; I did not do that step.
@MitchW @sod Newport is right. Gotta do that step. I’ve got my mainstream social media to a bare minimum: no IG, FB and LinkedIn in a kind of deep freeze, and Twitter/X during business hours for business reasons. But w/o that instead step, I will fall for the “let’s just see what’s happening” trap.
@MitchW For a while, just the kids; now it’s a mix between online chess (I’m very bad), Jiujitsu (improving every day), and film (recently renewed now that the kids are older)
