I unfollowed 1,300 people for my June experiment and blogeliblogged about it. š
@pratik Hehe, no, Micro.blog has around 5,000 monthly active users. And a lot of the people I followed (I think the majority) were on other Fediverse platforms and Bluesky.
@MitchW The main reason is that if I do go back (and Iām still not sure I will), I want a fresh start, just to follow the people I truly miss. But also, itās so easy to slip back into old habits. Iām just human, so unfollowing everyone was me being kind to my future self. Making it harder to slip and fail the experiment. š
@sod Makes sense! I look forward to hearing how the experiment went.
I quit social media for a month in June 2022. Alas, I donāt know that it made much difference. Cal Newport says you have to first decide what youāre going to do instead of social media; I did not do that step.
@MitchW @sod Newport is right. Gotta do that step. Iāve got my mainstream social media to a bare minimum: no IG, FB and LinkedIn in a kind of deep freeze, and Twitter/X during business hours for business reasons. But w/o that instead step, I will fall for the āletās just see whatās happeningā trap.
@MitchW For a while, just the kids; now itās a mix between online chess (Iām very bad), Jiujitsu (improving every day), and film (recently renewed now that the kids are older)
@lukemperez Excellent choices!
