When I published the first version of the stats plugin, I intended to learn all about plugins in Micro.blog. With that done, it was time to add all the stats I wanted originally. Here’s the second iteration of the plugin. With more stats, simpler installation.

@pratik Yes, first crawl might take time. I see all the posts now. Around 1340.

@pratik Another benefit now is you don't need a custom theme. Or any configuration. Just install is enough. Hope that was your experience. Do let me know if any thing breaks or feels off.

@amit Ah! That's what I thought. Also, MB caches heavily so have to keep emptying the cache when we're making design changes. It looks accurate now. Great job!

Installation was super easy. I see that it creates a separate page which is better. I didn't see any Settings page so you may need to update your documentation. Glad to see the list of planned features too. In the number of posts per year table, can you also add a column for the number of replies? Also, minor quibble but it would be great to have comma separation in the total words written count.

@amit One more observation. MB's count of total posts on the Account page looks different than on the Stats page for both of my blogs.

@manton Hope clicking on that delete icon gives us a warning before purging all our posts 😬

@pratik Yeah, that M.B's count includes the drafts posts too. The stats page only includes the published posts.

@amit I have 300+ drafts on my main MB blog? πŸ€” @manton, how do you see only draft posts on your Posts page?

@pratik Glad that the installation was simpler -- once Manton adds it to the plug-in directory, it would be even more simple. Thank you for the list of improvements. Fixed the documentation. Adding replies is tricky as they are with Micro.blog and not really part of the posts. And the words count without comma pains me too. Will get to that :-)

@pratik Hmmm curious. For photos, I see the difference of ~20. For the main blog, the difference does seem huge. You can check drafts on the web Posts section, select Drafts toggle.

@amit this is an awesome plug-in idea. I am for sure going to install it once I get a chance in front of the computer (or iPad) later today.

@pratik On the web, there should be a Drafts button in the Posts screen.

@manton I don't see any Drafts button. Doesn't that mean I don't have any?

@pratik Yes, if you have any drafts (or scheduled posts) it should look like the screenshot in this post. If the numbers aren't matching up, maybe shoot me an email with the counts you're seeing. www.manton.org/2021/12/0...

@manton The toggle wasn't visible. Created a draft and then it was visible. But only that one post. @amit's stats plugin shows 2,012 posts but on the Accounts page on MB, it shows 2,363 posts. Less difference on the other Photos blog but a difference nevertheless.

@pratik hmm. would be interesting to find what posts are missing from stats.

@manton I am fetching pages with type as post.

@amit Incredible work! The thing that made me sit up was the consistent number of posts for the last three years, then a dramatic reduction this year. Guess I had a lot less to say this year? And that is what I love about this plugin. Along with 'On This Day' easily my two favourite add-ons to Micro.blog that make the service infinitely better - and are more crucial to my enjoyment of my site than say bookshelves or bookmarks. Also the number of photos can inadvertly be gotten (to a degree) from the photos category (if you keep that on by default).

@kaa High praise that, Khalid. Thank you! I am glad you found it useful. Even I was extremely fascinated looking at all the stats. They narrate a story, in a way. And each one's unique. I think more than for others, these stats are for self πŸ‘πŸ½

@amit exactly! I'm all about 'other' stats being unimportant (likes, followers, etc). These stats are about your output and where your attention was flowing over the years. Love it. Can't wait for future improvements.

Now that Manton has added the stats plugin to the directory, the installation should be even more simpler. Just head over to "Find Plugins" in Plugins section and click "Install" next to the Posts Stats plugin. You should have a new /stats page for your site.

@amit Thanks for the Stats plugin β€” very interesting! It doesn't show up on the list of Pages so I edited content/stats.md to remove it from the Menu as I didn't actually want it listed there. πŸ˜€

@Miraz I’ll have to do the same. Can’t find it either, and don’t wish to have it up there. Thanks for the tip.

@Miraz Easier said than done. Could find the file on @amit’s code on GitHub, but nowhere over here.

@maique On the web, logged in to your blog go to the design section and click the Edit Custom Themes button. The next page should show a list of themes and plugins. Click on Post Stats plugin. Then you'll see all the associated files. Click on content/stats.md . Edit the menu line to remove the word between speech marks, so you end up with: menu: "".

@Miraz Oh! Thank you! I solved it with @sod's CSS trick, and I had no idea the plugins also showed up on the custom themes page! I usually just go for mine, whenever I need it, and the plugins never caught my eye... Thank you so much, always learning around here.

@Miraz Thank you Miraz. So glad you liked it.

I did want to include a setting to show the page in menu or not. I couldn't make it custom in time. So released it without the setting, I figured if not in menu by default, folks may not know something got added. //cc @maique
