It appears that complaining about Elon Musk is not making him poorer. X also remains very popular. Whatever energy we’re putting into the fediverse and atmosphere, it’s not enough, or it’s not channeled in the right direction. I think there’s a lot to reflect on as a community and adjust.

@manton Yes! Remarkable to me that public officials and governments still use X.

@manton The truth is imho that most people stayed right where they were. The things they care about are more superficial. Another example, Musk had to misbehave a lot before I started hating my Tesla. But I still drive it, because none of the other EVs are anywhere near as good and I already have all this money sunk into it. Should I pay big bucks so I’m not driving around in a fascist car? Well I decided not yet, not until there’s something out there that I lust after. But I don’t have body work done on the damage I do to it, and there are a lot of dents on this baby. Remarkable actually.

@manton What else should we be doing? I see the open web vs. silos as tortoise vs. hare.

@MitchWagner I’m not sure yet. There is the usual just making the open web better, making it easier to blog. Going to think on this some more.

@manton I use X, Mastodon and Bluesky because there are different people on the different platforms. So if you want to engage with everyone you have to use everything. Unfortunately.

I’m no fan of Musk, but most people are on X because of Twitter legacy.

@manton What lessons do you think we should draw beyond reflecting?

@j12t I really don’t know. What you’re doing is great! Just had the feeling today that we’re missing something.

@manton it’s the people locked inside. The inconvenience of moving is hard for a lot of people

@manton Ohh boy are we missing things. I have long list... but!

I also have the feeling we are missing some even far more important things than are on my list and I am not certain what those are either!

@manton I don’t see the point of doing anything in relation to Musk and the platform he’s ruined. To hell with that. But I do think we have a right to demand of our public officials that they get on open platforms, even if they won’t wean themselves from the bad place. I’ve tried with my representatives in the past, but will have to make another go of it in future.
