My current Home Screen. Ask me anything…
@patrickrhone what's your microcast that I should be subscribed to, but didn't know existed.
@simonwoods @jsonbecker Have not posted to it lately. Need to get back on board that wagon.
@canion Drafts — Use for longer form writing (I still write 500-1000 word blog posts on my phone) and also to send myself quick email reminders.
Notes — Great for temporary notes. Like a scratchpad.
Simplenote — Long term notes I wish to store and retrieve. Like a notebook.
@ChrisJWilson App Library for everything else. I rarely listen to podcasts (used to a lot years ago when I had a long commute but now don’t make the time/space). Even the music I rarely interact with the app directly. I just ask Siri to play things for me. I only launch the app when she’s being difficult.
@patrickrhone do you have any thoughts, ideas, or opinions on Simplenote? Anything you love? Anything you dislike?
@mdrockwell I’ve used Simplenote since before it was released (beta). In fact, I’m kind of responsible for then changing the icon in the early days of the app. I love it for many reasons (simple, fast search, etc.) but the main one is that is syncs with nvALT on Mac which I’ve also used for many years. I heavily rely on both.
@simonwoods @patrickrhone @jsonbecker Had no idea about Patrick’s podcast, thanks for sharing that! Insta-followed.
@jmreekes A few reasons... 1) BusyCal is the descendant of Now Up-to-Date which I not only used for years and years (going back to my first Mac) but also worked for Now Software for several years in QA so I know it inside and out. 2) It has robust sharing features which my wife and I rely heavily on (we need to see each other's calendars and have a joint one for things that involve us both) 3) I like the look and feel better than the built in.
@patrickrhone Love the nice row of Micro.blog apps! We've actually been dusting off Wavelength and hope to do a minor update soon.
@manton Did I just read "dusting off Wavelength"? I'm exciting! I don't want to use Anchor app. I prefer our own Wavelength! Looking forward to it!
@ridwan Thanks! Yeah, it has gone too long without an update. The plan is to open source it as well. I'm pretty happy with the way it works, so I don't think it needs a bunch of new features, but I want it to be stable and keep up with the latest iOS.
@patrickrhone Got ya. I’ve been a long time Fantastical user but know a few people who love BusyCal. I need to give it a go and see how I like it.
@manton That row is intentional as it is the most natural one hand holding thumb length for me.
@vincent It's how I post to @whoatowow. Though I know the apps can support multiple accounts I find it easier to use two separate ones.
But, it's a great app and I love to use it.
@patrickrhone Still a big Now Software fan which has me using BusyCal and Busycontacts today. One of my early Mac Laptops I sold to a sales guy entirely on how Now UTD and Contact worked
@wakemp I could tell stories for days about the developers and how ingenious it really was (especially on the army Macs without a lot of storage).
Also, how the trade off of that was that when things failed, they failed spectacularly.
@patrickrhone @jmreekes My first roommate in Portland (1993!) worked at Now Software. A Portland tech institution back in the day.
@jean 1) What was your friend’s name?
2) That would have been Now 1.0. Now was later acquired by Power On Software which had an office here in Minneapolis. A few years after that acquisition Power On became Now Software based on the strength of that brand (Now 2.0). So your friend and I may not have crossed paths.
@manton I like it. I got an error from apple when I submitted the feed. Can I email some one the response for help?
