Met a guy with zero exposure to Rage Against The Machine. I know, right?! Anyway, do I just tell him to grab the first album and hit play? Or give him a custom playlist? And if the latter, where to start?!

@jessekelber my introduction to that bad was their self-titled first album. I think that’s a great place to start!
@pgkr I’m leaning that way too, it’s fantastic from start to finish. Thanks!
@jessekelber Star Trek: Voyager, Season 6 Episode 20, time code 10:10.
ok, maybe not the best intro, unless your friend is a Star Trek fan. But the coincidence that I just watched this episode today was impossible to let go by. @miraz
@macgenie Wait…Star Trek uses RATM!?!? I have to admit, the fact that my stepdad was a major Trekkie means I never gave the franchise much of a chance…do I need to rethink that stance?
@jessekelber it’s not the music, but a cameo by Tom Morello. memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Tom_...
Looks like he was in the Star Trek insurrection movie too!
@skysandison right?! Bombtrack was one hell of an intro to one hell of a band. Remember the video for Cochise? First outing as Audioslave. They arrive separately, there are fireworks, and they leave as a band. Powerful imagery for another powerful introduction to the world.
@skysandison To be honest, I missed them completely at the time. Was too sad about RATM and Soundgarden (the soundtrack of my teen/college years) both being gone and I just couldn't see how the combo of Chris’s vocals and Rage's funk could work.
I was wrong.
I was so wrong.
(after you watch Cochise, find the clip of their first concert on top of the marquee at CBS studio in NYC)
@macgenie Ah, gotcha. Cool.
Maybe I gave ST short shrift because of my stepdad's ultra-fandom…?
@jessekelber We recently had a good discussion thread when @amit wondered how to get started with Star Trek when there is soooo much.
Some of my favorite people in the world are Star Trek fans. There can also be jerks (I know because I follow the Star Trek fandom on Twitter) but you know what they say: “don’t let the petáQs* get you down.” 🖖
*Klingon epithet, equivalent to bastard.
@macgenie also big Star Trek fan here. About the overlap of music and Star Trek, Iggy Pop had a guest role on Deep Space Nine once. Btw, to newcomers, I usually suggest going with the Original Series movies.
