The usual subscription-outrage over Fantastical 3. It will settle like it did with all the other apps. And everything will be fine for everyone. I understand it… but if you need it, you pay it. If not, you don’t need it. But a required account?

@hutaffe I think I’ll be staying on v2, just as I didn’t upgrade when TextExpander went subscription-only. Not angry with Flexibits though—they have to do what they need to do to stay in business. 😕

@Bruce exactly. I probably won’t switch too. I barely need anything more than the standard Calendar, and even v2 was a far stretch to buy for me because I don’t really need it. They need to do what they need to do and this is the way it’s going these days, whether people like it or not unfortunately.

@hutaffe Does the free version require an account too?

@hutaffe I don’t mind paying for the software I use, but with everything going subscription based I do need to weed out what I want from what I need.

Right now, I can do without Fantastical but I might come back to it if my needs change.

@stefp it’s kind of strange, no account needed on iPhone but on ipad

@stefp not sure... I just skimmed over a couple reviews. Even for the pro version, I would only understand this if you’re using their calendar service.

@matthewlang I‘m starting to think these switches to subscriptions actually save me money in some cases 😉 I‘m pretty sure I would have impulse-bought the new version just because I wanted it. This way I just don’t even try 😉

@jemostrom I just did the update on my phone and yes it seems you don’t need the account for that. I haven’t tried the iPad yet. @hutaffe

@hutaffe same here. I’ve already stopped using a few apps and refrained from buying others. I don’t know for sure but I would probably have bought a few upgrades/apps ... but I assume that the subscription model generates more money in the long run

@jemostrom I think that’s true. At the very least it provides a stable income and a better way of resource planning.

@hutaffe On a separate note, how did you export your Animoji to use it as an avatar?

@matthewlang I think I took a screenshot from the Edit screen and cut it from there. Not sure if there’s a better way...

@jemostrom Now it is demanding an account on my phone and I’ve lost Fantastical 2. Not happy.

@hutaffe Well, this makes me happy. 🙂 (Emphasis mine).

And what about our existing customers who bought our apps in the past years to get us to this point? Some have called us crazy, but we call it doing the right thing. All of the features from your prior purchase of Fantastical 2 will continue to work with the new Fantastical. That’s right: your new apps will automagically detect your existing purchase and provide a special unlock of the features you already paid for. This means you will continue to get bug fixes and support for some time to come, too.

@Bruce maybe I‘ll give it a try... I‘m just afraid it will make me think I have to sign up though 😉

@hutaffe @matthewlang If you go to Messages, click the triple dot at the upper right, and edit name and photo:

You can press and hold on the image at the top of that page to copy. Then paste it into an iMessage or something, press and hold again to save as photo. A bit convoluted but it works 😃

@hutaffe I asked their support and apparently you need to create an account to use it (no subscription needed). Sigh, account creation fatigue anyone.

@stefp I upgraded from 2, which I have used for years, and while I haven’t been asked to create an account I think it’s going to keep prompting me to upgrade to premium. I fear this may be the end of Fantastical for me.

@hutaffe I take it as an opportunity to try out the built in calendar app and see if creating yet another account is worth it (yes I think Fantastical app is a better calendar app than the built in)

@strandlines Yes. It wont let me in after opening it a second time. It might be because of the free trial starting but we were never given the chance to choose.
