I wished there was a way to view only the micro.blog timeline. Mastodon folks are many and chatty. I have the suspicion that we could lose a little bit of the cozyness of this place.

@yatil How is it that you see Mastodon people on your timeline, unless you are following them?

Oh! I get it. You are following them, but you'd like to have an option to filter them from your timeline. I think this is why I'm going to keep Mastodon separate by being a separate user over there. 😒

@jean Exactly. And I’m not really disciplined enough to take care of two timelines 😅

@jean Following a few accounts works really well from mb. Calmer compared to following people Mastodon itself. You don’t get their likes or boosts for example.

@torb I really dislike the boosts! I’ve been spoiled on Micro.blog, and even on Twitter I turned off retweets on everyone I was following. On the social.lol page, I can filter out boosts, but the apps don’t seem to have that option. 🫤

@jean I also find myself filtering out boosts on Mastodon. I seem to be following a couple serial boosters. :)

@jean @torb boosts were great when mastodon was a bit quieter as it let you see interesting people from other instances that you might like to follow. With the influx of people from twitter, who miss retweeting, they’re a lot more noticeable and noisier though.

@meandering It’s always a balance to have discovery and quiet! On Micro.blog by default you see replies in your timeline to people you are not following. Which was how Twitter was in the beginning, and there was a lot of complaints when that ability was removed. But you can turn that off if you want in Account settings. Some folks would like to view their timeline with no replies. I get that. @gluon offers that filter.

@yatil If you access Micro.blog via a web browser, you can hide posts from Mastodon folks with the following CSS: .post:has(.post_username > a[href*="@"]) { display:none; }. Some browsers, like Safari on macOS, have built-in support for this. For others, you might have to install a plug-in like Stylebot.

@sod Nice use of :has! Unfortunately depending on how many people you follow that probably gives you only a couple entries per page. But in a pinch, it’s a good option. 🙂
