Seeing the “luxurious” headline on this review at The Verge for the new reMarkable Paper Pro, I was expecting it to be more expensive than $579. Looks really nice. And it makes sense to go for the high-end. The super low-end is well served by Kindles and paper notebooks.

@manton been periodically lusting after their various options but can never quite make the case for getting one…

@mbkriegh Same here, I can't justify the purchase. But I think for people who really want one, the price almost doesn't matter that much. People spend way more on iPads.

@manton Color displays are always low-fidelity (not resolution) unless they use the new cell technology (which isn’t cheap), and tend to be more power-hungry than b/w. Tack on the front-light and you have an issue. The front-light also adds a layer between the writing surface and the display adding to fuzziness. I note the article is absent of specs and comparisons to other similar devices, and is therefore suspect. ;) Too much fan-boy gushing in the article.

@manton Oh and the subscription is a big minus for extra features that others bundle.

@manton Our local electronics store currently has a "Go on, touch it, you know you want to" display showing the Paper Pro, and hot damn, it's really nice. I want one even though I know I wouldn't use it for anything but reading books and PDFs, if at all.

Seriously nice piece of hardware, that.

@manton I have been wanting a reMarkable table for some time, but held off because I had a feeling a new model was around the corner. I'm looking forward to seeing reviews of this!

@manton I was thinking the exact same thing. The price doesn't seem as extravagant as I thought it might be, given the headline and the glowing review.
