@herself I don't know of a better option than Disqus for comments, but I feel your concerns with it. HTTPS should "just work" once your domain stuff is figured out. Have you added discombobulated.co.nz to the Domains section of Blot's settings? I looked at my baty.blog DNS settings and www.baty.blog
is a CNAME (alias) pointing to blot.im
(IP 54.191.179.131). discombobulated.co.nz
is pointing to 210.55.30.67 so it looks like you need to make some DNS changes first. Clear as mud?
@herself I just show webmentions as comments, I do not like comments forms. They are prone to spams. And I eventually learn to ignore them. But I understand why a simpler commenting system would be important.
Blot supports https once domain is setup, so I use it. And on domain, do you want root to point to a different host and only a subdomin to blot? I have a similar setup, not sure if that’s what you are looking for.
@jack thanks! I thought I had got that set up properly at he blot end but I think I need to revisit it. Flagging this so I can look at it properly when my brain is engaged (more coffee required)!
@vasta @amit I may need to look into the webmention thing too... it sounds like a nice way to include parts of the conversation... it’s funny how used to comments I have become!
@herself Yeah, I have found webmentions helpful. Comments ofcourse is one part, it also becames important when someone links to the post -- it is visible right there along with post. So sure, have webmentions displayed :-)
@jack eep, that was it! All looks like it is sorted now - I have no idea where that 210 IP address came from. I'd been talking with the domain people and they must have "helped" me there... now time to figure out comments :)
@fiona It looks interesting, though I confess I'm cringing a little bit at their "500,000 of credits" for the slider, and "storage of comments is for free." :S
Just for webmention/blot reference, I came across this just now: blotmentions, from Where The Light Gathers
@herself Although this doesn't seem to be working for me right now. Need to play around with it more, I think.
@herself How much does Blot cost for us btw? I love Micro.blog, but I'm finally wanting something with a bit more control.
@JacksonOfTrades Yeah, it's a no-brainer. David is looking to increase that to the super high value of $30 :-) at some point...
@JacksonOfTrades eep, sorry, I thought I answered you on the price. But I see others have got in there, so phew! :)
@herself Those are all webmentions from Micro.blog. I don't recall ever enabling Disqus but that would probably be the simplest options. Getting webmentions into Blot was a whole other project!
@jack That's what I was sort of sneaking up towards asking you about! I started looking at it yesterday but when I go to authenticate at webmention.io with my blog I get: " discombobulated.micro.blog / This is not a supported authentication provider." Did you experience that as well?
@herself I don't remember having trouble authenticating but I think I used github.com as an authentication provider at webmention.io, not micro.blog. I'm not sure if you can use micro.blog or not, I'm afraid. Maybe you could add a link to discombobulated.co.nz on your Gitlab or Twitter profiles if you have accounts there.
