@herself I don't know of a better option than Disqus for comments, but I feel your concerns with it. HTTPS should "just work" once your domain stuff is figured out. Have you added discombobulated.co.nz to the Domains section of Blot's settings? I looked at my baty.blog DNS settings and www.baty.blog
is a CNAME (alias) pointing to blot.im
(IP 54.191.179.131). discombobulated.co.nz
is pointing to 210.55.30.67 so it looks like you need to make some DNS changes first. Clear as mud?
@jack Just Comments is a decent alternative to Disqus.
@herself I just show webmentions as comments, I do not like comments forms. They are prone to spams. And I eventually learn to ignore them. But I understand why a simpler commenting system would be important.
Blot supports https once domain is setup, so I use it. And on domain, do you want root to point to a different host and only a subdomin to blot? I have a similar setup, not sure if that’s what you are looking for.
@herself I’m sure people have already replied, but there should be a setting in the Blot settings that allows you to force https automatically, as long as you have your domain set up. As for comments, I’ve been thinking about enabling webmentions; don’t need to rely on a tool, and all the conversation you have on m.b (and others who link to the blog post!) gets captured as “comments” on the post. No clue how to do that yet, though; hoping to spend some time next week and learn.
Just for webmention/blot reference, I came across this just now: blotmentions, from Where The Light Gathers
@herself How much does Blot cost for us btw? I love Micro.blog, but I'm finally wanting something with a bit more control.
@JacksonOfTrades $20/year/site
@kaa Huh, that's actually super cheap. May have to give it a shot.
@JacksonOfTrades Yeah, it's a no-brainer. David is looking to increase that to the super high value of $30 :-) at some point...
@JacksonOfTrades eep, sorry, I thought I answered you on the price. But I see others have got in there, so phew! :)
@herself I don't remember having trouble authenticating but I think I used github.com as an authentication provider at webmention.io, not micro.blog. I'm not sure if you can use micro.blog or not, I'm afraid. Maybe you could add a link to discombobulated.co.nz on your Gitlab or Twitter profiles if you have accounts there.
