True story: When I was about 7 years old my Mom and I were on our way to The Bahamas. In Miami, in the airport gift shop, she ran into Sidney Poitier. She wanted his autograph but she only had one piece of paper on her.

That’s how Sidney Poitier ended up signing my Mom’s birth certificate.

@manton The memory is somewhat fuzzy in my mind. I don’t even know if I was really aware of who he was at the time. I just remember my Mom being super excited and talking for days/weeks afterward about what a ā€œbeautiful manā€ he was.
