@mandaris I have watched this a million times. Whenever it pops up on suggested videos anywhere, I dip in and get sucked into watching all the episodes again. Whenever I see one of the actors in another show, even today, I think “Oh, there’s Mrs. Bennet, there’s Wickham, there’s that super annoying Lydia, there’s that mean Miss Bingley…”
I avoided the Keira Knightley version forever. But it is also good. Just not as iconic to me. Death Comes To Pemberley, a sequel penned by the great P.D. James, was made into a good mini series.
@jean @mandaris I wish I could make a kind of mix-tape of both versions. Jennifer Ehle & Colin Firth give the definitive performances of the two main characters (I think); but in the Joe Wright version I thought Mrs Bennet was much less of a silly caricature, and Mr Collins was superb. Also, some great cinematography in the Wright version.
@jean Rachel and I are total devotees of the 1995 series. I didn’t know about the adaptation of “Death comes to Pemberley.” Thanks!
@JohnBrady 100% agree. And, although Donald Sutherland could be great, I prefer the 1995 Mr. Bennet.
@JohnBrady I think the insipid 1995 Mr. Collins is the best, ie the worst. After watching Succession, I came to admire Matthew MacFadyen for the fact he could play the sniveling Tom so well and still be a hot Mr Darcy. But Colin Firth above all others and always.
