✅ Revisiting my use of OmniFocus. Have always used it for long-term (non-code) project storage but never really had a good fit for “whats on deck today”. Trying to address that with custom Perspectives.

@zorn I finally got a place I like and find productive, and not overwhelming, this year after many years of trying various things. Basically, I flag things I’d like to or have to do this week, and then I have a custom tag called Next Move (and a perspective for it) for today.

@zorn The critical part that finished it for me is contexts/tags whereby I can filter those two lists and not be overwhelmed when selecting or accomplishing. And one of those tags is ‘⭐️ Goals’ to help me stick to my 6-12 month larger plans.

@zorn I’ll try to blog this up, actually. It’s the happiest & least overwhelmed I’ve been in... maybe forever.

@zorn Perspectives are why I’ve stuck with and loved OmniFocus for years despite there being many competing apps with arguably better UI and cool features.

@incanus That is exactly how I organize my tasks as well. Every Monday morning I review all pending tasks and flag those that I wish to complete that week. Then every morning I simply review only the flagged tasks and tag today’s tasks.

@incanus This was a great read! Made me realize that my own "Today" list has really become an "Available" list and that I really need a daily hand-picked list like you described.

@incanus I'm also curious about about any feedback loops you use to make sure you're not ignoring your goals; tagging + standard OmniFocus review are good enough?

@jd Yeah, when I weekly Review, tags are also visible so I can see my Goals as I set stuff up for the week.
