You need to create a quick screencast. What software do you use? Loom? ScreenPal? Cleanshot X? Why?

@Mtt QuickTime, because it’s built in.

@kevrodg I’ve definitely used it a lot over the years. Wish it had a way to capture using the camera at the same time like most of the others though.

@Mtt Do you need the camera feed as a separate video file? If you’re okay with something quick and scrappy, you could open Hand Mirror to get the camera feed.

Kind of like what I did here, but, you know, using Screenshot.app or QuickTime Player.app instead of an old camcorder. 😊

@Mtt not as simple as third party solutions, but…

  1. File > New Movie Recording
  2. File > New Screen Recording
  3. Combine with iMovie

@vincent For my most recent one, this is what I used. No complaints.

@sod Not a bad idea. Does the video feed deactivate or hide when you interact with another window?

@kevrodg Haven’t thought about doing it separately. Most of mine are off-the-cuff code or tech support type of videos, not production quality stuff. Having said that, I do have a project soon that will need some more professional editing.

@Mtt That’s up to you (it’s configurable).

@Mtt I still reach for Screenflow for 99% of my stuff, but I’ve been a long time user + $$ for it. A newer one some people dig for macOS is screen.studio.

@iChris I’m a Mac Power Users listener and the main guy just switched from Screenflow to Screen.studio and has been singing its praises. I’m debating giving it a go.

@Mtt I’m waiting until Screenflow does their next upgrade and I’ll decide then. It’s been years since Screenflow has seen any sort of improvement and either it’s dying a slow death, or they’ve got some sort of massive upgrade coming. Screen Studio definitely seems like the future though.
