@kaa Agreed - if only I knew how to do it!
I love the M.B's indieweb approach, but the downside for a non-coder like me is that it makes things (that are easy to do in WordPress) a real hassle.
Sure, I could just make the effort to learn CSS. Sure, I can ask lots of dump questions in #design on Slack. Sure, I can copy-paste some bits of code from the excellent custom.micro.blog. Sure, I can download a Hugo theme and maybe be able to customize it to my liking. It would take forever, but I could do all those things.
But in reality I just want to write content and express myself, not spend hours and days worrying about how to get pagination on my blog or being frustrated about how to change some particular part of my design. On my other blog (running in WordPress with the GeneratePress theme) I can change things instantly. I consider this M.B’s greatest flaw: it’s simply too demanding for most people, even those of us willing to do some work.
My current design is a modified version of Marfa, stitched together by whatever code kind folks have posted around the web. I think it’s adequate, but wish I knew how to create an appealing theme like yours - and I have no idea how to change the typeface in Marfa.
PS. I LOL’ed when reading about the cheese slicer :)
@kgfuglsbjerg So I think that Micro.blog nails the flow aspect of writing to your site. Inputing your thoughts is the reason I do it so regularly and don't like missing a day.
However, and this is where things break down, you need to offer a simple way for people to customise their site. This shouldn't include any coding really. It should be a series of dropdown menus. Change the colours. Change the typography (typeface and size). Maybe add an image/header (if you want). And if it was awesome there should be at least 5 variants on this (1 column, 2 column, photoblog, etc).
