Manton Reece - ActivityPub for your blog
I am @frankm@frankmcpherson.blog on Mastodon. Not sure what that means.
@frankm A person who is not on Micro.blog but who is on Mastodon could follow you via that user name.
You can also follow Mastodon people with that user name. And replies on one platform would show up on the other.
It's ideal for Micro.blog people who have friends or accounts they want to follow on Mastodon who aren't coming over to Micro.blog. You don't need to get a Mastodon account, and so you keep your social media interactions here on Micro.blog.
@macgenie But I can’t follow someone on Mastodon until they appear in Micro.blog, right? I don’t see a way to just enter a Matodon username to follow.
@frankm Yeah, I had the same question. I tried pasting a Mastadon user name into search but that didn’t work.
@frankm On the web, under Discover, you can search for a Mastodon user by user name or partial user name. Click on the name, and you should see the Follow link.
@Gaby No. @manton could explain why, but I did fret for a bit over choosing a user name, before I went with jean@micro.welltempered.net.
@macgenie I see, well it’s not a huge deal but after I did I realized it didn’t quite matched my micro.blog username.
@cn Approving followers should be handled on the Mastodon side, so I expect it will work. If it doesn't, let me know.
@Gaby I think Mastodon will get confused if the username changes, so we don't allow it right now. Hopefully this will get better over time.
@macgenie Found it, thanks.
@manton So updating the domain name of my micro. blog will not update the domain in my ActivityPub username?
@kevinwhalen For now, yes. Changing your domain name may get things a little out of sync. As I learn more about how Mastodon handles changes, I hope to make this more flexible.
