@ft I like this concept a lot -- and I really like the idea of moving away from a more traditional timeline, giving some control/segmentation seems like a wicked good way to do this without introducing algorithmic muck. I think participate could even just be a list of conversations a sub-set of the feeds you follow are engaged in. Maybe you can have multiple types of follows? Follow this user's new posts, follow this users new posts and replies?
@manton that is what I was thinking, but I guess a similar effect could be had with an individual feed of someones replies alone.
@FrankRamblings I agree and very much like the human touch of the Discover tab. I wouldn't advocate for its removal, just exploring other options around feed organization :P
@ft I love this! And it would be great if the “participate” was also somehow tied into the idea of being able to subscribe to conversations. Maybe each user would have a tab called “subscriptions” — or “conversations”? — of any ongoing threads they’ve participated in, or are interested in following. So: Timeline/Mentions/Conversations/Favorites/Discover. (But feeds should only be sorted by time, because I think that introducing ways to measure “popularity” would do too much damage to the conversation-driven culture of Micro.blog. Popularity metrics tend to lead to spectacle, which is all about surface at the expense of substance...)
@ft @rnv love the Conversations tab as a start to this -- could just be conversations involving folks you follow to start, which would help user discovery as well. A simple view with the initial post that triggered the conversation as the main entry point, list of users involved, last comment date/time, and maybe total replies. Then you can jump into the full conversation if the main point interests you. Maybe offer a 'Not Interested' option to remove it from your view. What a great idea thread so far!
@ft Paging @JohnPhilpin — This thread has generated some interesting suggestions that would be in good company on your MB wishlist
@rnv thankyou ... yes - agree ... I was just catching up on that thread - and will update soon. For now bookmarked your post to remind me.
