@ft that would be a pretty killer MB app, if @manton wasn't interested in building it directly into the service itself. I'd be interested in using something like that, at least.

@ft 100% yes to this.

@ft I like this concept a lot -- and I really like the idea of moving away from a more traditional timeline, giving some control/segmentation seems like a wicked good way to do this without introducing algorithmic muck. I think participate could even just be a list of conversations a sub-set of the feeds you follow are engaged in. Maybe you can have multiple types of follows? Follow this user's new posts, follow this users new posts and replies?

@ft there has been a lot of talk of blogrolls around the IndieWeb and Micro.Blog of late, and I think you are right that looking back is a good way to move forward right now. @manton is there currently a way to bifurcate replies from new posts in RSS so that I could follow the two feeds separately?

@eli @ft I agree with a lot of what you’re both saying. I think the Discover tab is currently curated by a person, and I do enjoy that human touch. Not sure I’d change that just yet, though it does raise scalability questions for the future.

@eli @ft Not currently. So a special feed that was just all replies of everyone you follow, not a specific person's replies, right?

@manton that is what I was thinking, but I guess a similar effect could be had with an individual feed of someones replies alone.

@FrankRamblings I agree and very much like the human touch of the Discover tab. I wouldn't advocate for its removal, just exploring other options around feed organization :P

@ft I love this! And it would be great if the “participate” was also somehow tied into the idea of being able to subscribe to conversations. Maybe each user would have a tab called “subscriptions” — or “conversations”? — of any ongoing threads they’ve participated in, or are interested in following. So: Timeline/Mentions/Conversations/Favorites/Discover. (But feeds should only be sorted by time, because I think that introducing ways to measure “popularity” would do too much damage to the conversation-driven culture of Micro.blog. Popularity metrics tend to lead to spectacle, which is all about surface at the expense of substance...)

@ft @rnv love the Conversations tab as a start to this -- could just be conversations involving folks you follow to start, which would help user discovery as well. A simple view with the initial post that triggered the conversation as the main entry point, list of users involved, last comment date/time, and maybe total replies. Then you can jump into the full conversation if the main point interests you. Maybe offer a 'Not Interested' option to remove it from your view. What a great idea thread so far!

@endonend @ft And I want to emphasize that I think each person’s basic Timeline should stay as clean as possible, and purely chronological. All the Faves and Convos and Discovers should be separate views, and up to each person to customize.

@ft Paging @JohnPhilpinThis thread has generated some interesting suggestions that would be in good company on your MB wishlist

@rnv @ft totally agree. A conversation tab would even allow you to remove replies all together from timeline if you wish. You’d be able to catch anything at a larger scale on the Conversation view and individual stuff on the Mentions.

@ft @manton What about something along the lines of Fever's kindling? If multiple people you follow respond to a post, it shows up in a timeline? Or the ability to curate a list of people you don't want to directly follow but would be interested in something many of them post about?
