Book and film covers! I’ve updated Micro.blog to show little thumbnails of book covers when you blog about a book using Micro.blog or our companion app Epilogue. I wanted something visually helpful but less in your face than link preview banners. There’s also special support for Letterboxd links.

@manton That’s so cool! I assume they only show in the Timeline? And just as I was switching from Letterboxd to Trakt…

@jarrod Yeah, just in the timeline for now. Letterboxd is an experiment so we’ll see how it can be expanded, or if we’ll eventually support films natively.

@manton Cool cool! I’d love to have native film/TV logging like we do books, but this is pretty sweet too. Thanks!

@manton Oh cool. This being said i just added the diary feed that Letterboxd provides to their users to my Micro.blog. It works great. 👌

@manton Thanks for adding a css class to the cover image :)

@heyloura 👍 Hopefully it’s easy enough to style or hide in other apps.

@dirtyhenry I see that you also link to your blogpost where you log the movie. The cover doesn’t show up in that post on the timeline. Are you also importing the Letterboxd-imported feed? It creates duplicate posts @manton

@manton I had made a note to request just this very feature. Thanks!

Please do support Trakt; I’d like to be able to do it for TV shows too. And is there any way to have the thumbnail show up on the blog itself, and in crossposts?

@manton Also, thanks for highlighting my post for this.

I had gotten away from using Epilogue for a few months, because I did not care of it as a to-be-read list. But just a few days ago I decided that Epilogue is great as a currently-reading and finished-reading list. So I happily resumed using it for that purpose.

@MitchW Thanks! Not yet, but I’m thinking about having it show in blog posts too as an option.

@pratik To be clear, I’d continue using other apps for tracking my watch lists. I just like the idea of having a more full-featured way to review them on my blog. I might feel differently if I tried importing a Trakt or Letterboxd feed into my blog (does it pull in your review text too, or just link back to it on Letterboxd?). But in the spirit of owning my text on the web, I like the prospect of having those reviews live at my domain.

@pratik I think the duplicate posts come from changing settings. Because I wanted the content of the feed to appear in my newsletter, I have switched from Add posts to Micro.blog timeline to Import posts from feed at letterboxd.com to: dirtyhenry.micro.blog so there should not be more duplicates.

@dirtyhenry Yup. That’s what I do too. That option will also add it to the Micro.blog timeline. The UI on that setting could be clearer. But I don’t think the new cover art featuring on the timeline will work with the option we use.

@pratik @matt That’s actually what I’ve been doing! I love Quick Reviews. I should have made a shortcut for it while I had the chance, but I’m pretty sure he recently removed its URL scheme. I think it’d still have been pretty manual anyway to get the poster and set text size and everything. But wouldn’t it be cool to have movieshelves on our sites like we do bookshelves?

@pratik I just took a closer look through your movie archive and you’re right. That’s pretty nice!

@manton I was wondering if it is possible to run Epilogue on iOS 15? The app can be installed but it won’t start.

@kandr3s I’ll check, thanks. It is supposed to work on iOS 15 but we must’ve missed something.
